I have raised 4 teens and now I am raising 3 grandchildren that will be teens soon enough. I was never able to convince my teenagers that I knew anything at all. They have to figure it out for themselves. let then know you are there to help them, but pick your battles wisely.

Take a trip to the local juvenile hall or detention center. point out the slugs who dropped out or refused to apply themselves.
Then go to the local gas station of Quickie Mart. Show him how gainful employment in these places require nothing more than a 10th grade education.
Finally....give him a shovel and have him dig a ditch. let him know that this is another type of employement he'll qualify for if he enjoys the outdoors.
Have him move out to the side of a house, using a cardboard box and an old blanket as shelter and let him walk to the local soup kitchen or mission kitchen every day for breakfast and lunch.
A small, controlled taste of what life has in store may get him to see the light. Good luck.

We never really had a problem with our kids grades, but I do remember the summer after our sons first year of college he had a summer job working with a friend that had a heating and air business. After that summer someone asked him what he wanted to major in and he said somethign that will keep me from having to do heating and air businesss. I guess what I mean is that if he has a terribly hard, unglamouous part time job it will hopefully instill a desire to make sure he does NOT have to do that kind of work as an adult.

you have to let him know that you have already gone to school and finished. so if he does not care why should you? if this does not work you can do several things that he's not really going to like. 1) don't give him any $$$ until his grades improve 2) if he has a car take his driving privileges away 3) you could lower your standards and let him know that if he graduates you will reward him with a nice size chunk of change 4) if all else fails this is a bit harsh but it will definitely work....Military School...GOOD LUCK!

take him to visit a jail, don't let him out of the house til his grades come up, don't let him drive, have friends over or anything til his school work is done. If he says he has none, make some of your own up for him to do. Take the phone away. No sports. What else do you have? Put him in a tech school.

You should set boundaries like the child has to be in bed by like 11:00 p.m. and supervise night-time study halls. Also offer tutoring if needed. If not, hire a tutor. Please bear in mind that diet and exercise should play in key role in grades. Offer only foods high in fat and little or no sugar. Make sure the child does stay away from the junk food (McDonald's burgers, KFC fried chicken, candy, soda, etc.). As far as exercise, please try to engage him/her in at least 30 minutes of physical activity a day. Like said, do set limits and boundaries. Although, I am not a medical doctor or psychologist, I am trying to provide you as much advice as possibly can. Also, try "Coach Carter" on Yahoo search and order one of his books on how to improve GPA. I been to his website and it was great!
