Yes I have 12 years training in Judo and have a black belt. Judo is a defensive based style that is designed to use an opponants weight and momentum against them so having to face a larger opponent in theory shouild not make a difference as long as you are evenly matched as far as skill level goes.
As far as throws that are good it depends on the person and what they like and their size, any throw is very effective its about technique and the users comfort and knowlage of it.
My favourate throw is drop- sienagi. It is based from a normal grip one hand on your opponents sleave and the other on their lapel. As you pull them into you and turn your shoulder into them to throw them. You drop into a crouching or kneeling position between their legs and as you follow through with the throw and your opponant is now directly ontop of you you spring back up with your legs forcing your hips up but keeping your head shoulders and arms atill low to the matt. This gives you an added thrust and momentum.
Great for smaller quicker fighters.

I only ever got to be a yellow with 2 tags. I once won a fight in 2 seconds with a ceanagi (not sure how to spell it, knickname was `girlfriend throw, or spring-hip attack'.
I packed in for two reasons, 1. I was a foot taller than anyone in my gym, then when it came to grading, I was a foot smaller than other competitors. It made the fighting style difficult.
The main reason though was that I won one fight with a scarf-hold, but afterwards the poor kid could not hold his head up, and had to be taken to emergency in an Ambulance - put me off too much.
