I wish it did! All of my housework would be done by the time I got home and dinner would be on the table... just because I say "I believe all of this will be done by the house fairies before I get home" And they would do it!

Belief can be a powerful thing. You can believe something to be so true, that it is, to you. Of course this can't break the rules of physics, so believing that you will fly will not make you fly. However as far as I have tested, it can bend rules at least to a small degree, when applied to your own body. For instance if you believe that you can run very fast, your chances of running faster than normal increase.
You can also believe yourself into having pain... like pain in dreams.

Blieving can be based on physical proof or vision(which makes it real) but faith and blind hope, dosent make anything real, just real to the people believing. Like the toth fairy. Noone ever seen it,except on LSD. Jesus did exist, that has been proven and they use to kill people on the cross, that was the norm, like we have electric chairs now,but belieing he is the Messiah is faith, not factual. Im not saying if he is or not,but its faith. But also, just because something isnt seen dosent make it unreal. Like ghosts, demons, angels, aliens. We may not have seen these things, but isnt the whole idea of life enough a phenomenon that why cant anything else be real??

Believing what?

no, faith and hope for something that is possible makes it so, if you know that the thing you believe in does not have any signs of existence, then believing is a waste of time, for example, God is real, everything around us was created by him.. if he isnt, who made us?

(they say we evolve, then why havent we evolved further?)

Faith (wishful, magical thinking) is a substitute for evidence... and serves as the basis for 'belief'... the internalized certainty that one's own ideations map to reality.

'Belief' is a substitute for knowledge... i.e., false knowledge, sustained by wishful, magical thinking.

faith + belief = willful ignorance and self-delusion

no, believing doesn't make something true, but it definitely makes it true to you.... everyone has their own realities....
