I howl to my dog too. She seems very happy when I do it and she wags her tail and we play "tag".

No idea, I howl at my dog too, it drives him nuts. He thinks he's in contact with another dog and gets all excited I reckon.

Supposedly dogs don't bark in the wild. They only do if they are around people because they are trying to mimic a human's voice. Pretty neat, huh? But yeah, he's just trying to say hi.
