PBS will soon air a show on this story. In a remote part of Turkey, there is a Muslim family that literally walks on all fours. http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2006/03/0308_060308_all_fours.html

"The siblings' parents are CLOSELY RELATED and have had 19 children in all."

Its ironic that Islam should give us today visible evidence of the evolutionary process. You see, Islamic single sex communities (Islam's extreme separation of the sexes) creates extremely high incest rates. For example, in America, according to studies cited in Discover magazine, the rate is about 1% (lowest in world), but Islamic communities had the highest incest rates ranging as high as 50% in more rural areas.

So, the conclusion is, that Islamic incest has preserved for us, the genetic expression of quadruplism -- " He believes the siblings, who range in age from 18 to 34, are evolutionary throwbacks—a "missing link" to our forebears."

Incest wouldn't do anything to go backwards in the evolutionary process. It would simply increase the chance of mutations. Mutations are a main theory for the genetic change needed for evolution. This means they have higher chances of genetic differences from the normal population. In most cases this is a bad thing, but it isn't de-evolution.

Sure. It's easy for YOU to see it, Vegas Steve, but the people who could really benefit from knowing this will not. The people in the rural villages in Turkey won't benefit from this information, because they won't see it. If the point is only to prove our own superiority, that's not much of a point because it's a little too easy. The issue of human inbreeding is a major hinge-pin in helping people see the vital importance of human diversity. I agree that seeing cases where the failure to have diversity has so clearly gone wrong makes a compelling case for diversity, but then I feel sorry that there is no help for the victims of their own narrow society. Sorry, I need coffee before I can write a complex sentence. Thanks for the link about the possible missing link. But It isn't an Islamic issue, it's a backward thinking issue.

You said: " but Islamic communities had the highest incest rates ranging as high as 50% in more rural areas."

May be the figure you gave for USA is right but why are you putting this figure : 50% with it to give the impression that the study included the Islamic world and came up with this figure: 50 % !!!!!

Don't support your words with fake figures, we need solid proof.

How come such very sensitive subject given to a Magazine just like that!!!

Your story is flawed.

I've already seen a doc on this. It's not about evolution, it's about brain damage/underdevelopment to the cerebral cortex and the social structure they were surrounded with that never encouraged them to overcome this. By the end, by giving them bars to practice walking upright despite their brain developments, the researcher had them walking upright without. The same would happen here where we have better health systems.

Question:

If a man is allowed to have more than one wife, then why does Islam prohibit a woman from having more than one husband?

Answer:

A lot of people, including some Muslims, question the logic of allowing Muslim men to have more than one spouse while denying the same ‘right’ to women.

Let me first state emphatically, that the foundation of an Islamic society is justice and equity. Allah has created men and women as equal, but with different capabilities and different responsibilities. Men and women are different, physiologically and psychologically. Their roles and responsibilities are different. Men and women are equal in Islam, but not identical.

Surah Nisa’ Chapter 4 verses 22 to 24 gives the list of women with who you can not marry and it is further mentions in Surah Nisa’ Chapter 4 verse 24 "Also (prohibited are) women already married"

The following points enumerate the reasons why polyandry is prohibited in Islam:

1. If a man has more than one wife, the parents of the children born of such marriages can easily be identified. The father as well as the mother can easily be identified. In case of a woman marrying more than one husband, only the mother of the children born of such marriages will be identified and not the father. Islam gives tremendous importance to the identification of both parents, mother and father. Psychologists tell us that children who do not know their parents, especially their father undergo severe mental trauma and disturbances. Often they have an unhappy childhood. It is for this reason that the children of prostitutes do not have a healthy childhood. If a child born of such wedlock is admitted in school, and when the mother is asked the name of the father, she would have to give two or more names! I am aware that recent advances in science have made it possible for both the mother and father to be identified with the help of genetic testing. Thus this point which was applicable for the past may not be applicable for the present.

2. Man is more polygamous by nature as compared to a woman.

3. Biologically, it is easier for a man to perform his duties as a husband despite having several wives. A woman, in a similar position, having several husbands, will not find it possible to perform her duties as a wife. A woman undergoes several psychological and behavioral changes due to different phases of the menstrual cycle.

4. A woman who has more than one husband will have several sexual partners at the same time and has a high chance of acquiring venereal or sexually transmitted diseases which can also be transmitted back to her husband even if all of them have no extra-marital sex. This is not the case in a man having more than one wife, and none of them having extra-marital sex.

The above reasons are those that one can easily identify. There are probably many more reasons why Allah, in His Infinite Wisdom, has prohibited polyandry.

Umm... Is it not possible that this "remote part of Turkey" is made up of small villages with small population groups...

Birth defects show up in all cultures, regardless of religion. Isn't it rather possible that you are simply using this forum as a propaganda tool for your personal dislike of Muslims in general...

What a question.

Personally, I don't think we need "missing link Muslims" to prove evolution theory valid. The only people who dispute it are religious nutbags, and there's not much we can do about them.

No, you don't need a hobby - you need a long vacation - all by yourself - in the middle of nature.

No interruptions - no cel. phone - just peace and quiet.
