There is a free partition program called AEFdisk.exe available for download for free. Use this only if you are not an expert with DOS commands, Fdisk, etc.
Simply install the rpogram, to a bootable floppy or bootable CD. Is your hard drive big enough to support TWO Operating Systems? If it supports XP, it might support Windows Vista.

you received't free files in case you employ the third party apps, like Partition Magic. Vista enables repartitioning your unused area without files loss. homestead windows XP will repartition for you, yet you'll free YOUR files, till your using a third party app. the way in which to play with homestead windows 7 is to apply VMware, it runs a digital device interior your at the moment OS, and also you do not favor to do any partitioning..

Enter the BIOS, and set the boot order to cd first. Pop in the xp cd,and choose the option to create and install on a new partition. When it is done and you boot, the system will ask you which os to boot. Make sure you backup your files before begining.

Yes it is. if you do not want to lose DATA do the followings: Re size the partition using partition magic software until you get it half size . then create a new partition in the space you created and format that new partition and install windowsxp on it, when you start your computer you have the choice which windows you want to use.

Remember - installing multiple partitions only works when the drive is formatted as FAT. So, when installing XP, if prompted to convert the hard disk, don't do it. Just keep it as FAT and you'll be fine.

Since you have win98 I doubt you have the power and space needed to run winXP. Unless you have a minimum of 256MB ram and a 40GB drive plus a cpu of 800 mhz or better, don't bother. WinXp will run on a slower cpu with only 128MB ram and you can even get away with a 20GB drive but it will be extremely slow and will crash frequently.

As above, you need to confirm that you PC is powerful enough to run XP. If this machine was running Win 98 SE its very doubtful....

Why do people like you never look up anything yourselves?

The word is "multibooting", and this is not a tenth of the links found.
