I prefer to meet at a coffee shop to talk about each other's interests first, just to give ideas on the actual date.
But nope I am deciding to be romantic; if you are near a ice rink, go there.
Museums/galleries if you are a fan of art.
A walk down the embankment or clear view park if you feel like enjoying the scenery.
See fireworks if they are on.
Go shopping together (dpn't scare him with your collection of shoes and clothers though lol).
Take cookery class together.
If your town/city has any particular points of interest go to them eg. a tourist slope that has the whole view of the city.
A small boat ride besides the lake/embankment.
Dance classes (salsa and merengue are the favourites usually)
If you just want to let your hair down;
bowling alley (go right ahead)
concerts and festivals (if any are coming up)
video arcade
cycling
morning run/jog together
gym
bar (to eat and drink)

I'd go somewhere similar to the bowling alley... somewhere that has a bar, arcade and other things going on... for those times of awkward silences!! (If there are any!)

I agree - someplace fun like bowling or miniature golf!
You can tell alot about a person when you interact like that together!
I don't like eating because it's hard to talk and get to know each other with food getting in the way!
(never a movie!)

I like to take a girl to the body farm and watch corpses in various states of decomposition. I especially enjoy sitting in the back of an old Buick with some popcorn watching the driver slumped over the sterring wheel with maggots crawling out through the back of his head. You could say I'm an old romantic.

I always think that restaurants and a movie is always a classic thing to do. It's easy to get to know each other that way. then after, something more laid back that you can have a few laughs at.
