I use AVG but not the free version. Not only are there no problems with updates, the service is fantastic. If you have a problem they really do pull out all the stops to help. It's not so expensive, not for something which is vital.

AVG is a pain in the rear AND it installs spyware. On top of that, it WON'T WORK if you install Windows without Infernal Exploder. (Yes, it can be done.)

I currently use AntiVir Guard which is okay and I used F-Protect for DOS (which is free); F-Protect has a paid Windows version. Someone also mentioned "Avast", which is tolerable.

But the *best* anti-virus program is your head. Viruses only get on your computer in two ways: YOU put them on when you installed unverified software, and YOU are using programs with security holes.

One: STOP USING insecure crap like Infernal Exploder or LookOut! Express (as in "Lookout! It permits viruses!"). Microshaft doesn't care that their programs suck or that their users' computers are damaged by Microshaft's incompetence.

Two: STOP USING programs to get things for "free". Filesharing and other pirating software is full of viruses and spyware. That's how they make money.

Three: ONLY use freeware from trusted sites such as SourceForge, "No Nags", Tucows and other well known freeware distributors. They test the software before releasing it to ensure it's not tainted.

AVG is the best program you can get for free. I'd take it in a heart beat over any of the other programs including some of the ones you have to but. Just got to download.com and search for AVG.

yeah, try, Bitdefender and if you are looking for a great free firewall, try kerio personal firewall. Kerio takes a while to sort out all the preferences, however its a fantastic prog... lets nothing that you don't want through!
