Does seem like stopping right at the beginning doesn't it?

I think the reason that so many people end there is because so many of us especially in the current generation are taught about science and mans ability to do so much through it. It is organized, somewhat precise, and repeatable. The thought of everything coming from something and not knowing what that something could possibly be confounds many people. I myself lean more towards how beautiful the world is and then try to be the best person I can in it. I will find out forsure if god exists as we think of him when I am DEAD. Sounds silly but it is true. I have friends who rally into their camps on all sides of religion and etc. I never fit in. Because someone once told me.....lead a spirited life, not a spiritual one. Best advice I ever recieved. So I am open and ready to explore what the universe has to offer without worring about what is and what isn't.

Have a great day.

I believe people are so insecure with where they came from that instead of saying OK God made the world in 6 days and rested on the 7th and leave it at that because they were not there to see him do it. As humans we have to see to believe even though we can't see the wind and can't see the air that we breath God is to big of an idea to say yeah something higher did such a great job. But we have so many people telling us different ways to believe that I think the human race is just so confused.

It's the starting point, because depending on the answer, the rest of religion has or hasn't got to be taken seriously.

It's the ending point, because as the best answer I've got so far is that he doesn't exist, there is no point going any further.

Because all else comes from that. Establish that a deity exists, and we can move on to the question of which religion or religions contain the truth of that deity's revelation.

No other question in religion is more important than, "Does a deity even exist at all...?"

It is a foundation of life belief.

Is there a God?
Is life friendly, hostile or indifferent?
Etc...

Questions so basic to our view of the world many of us do not even realize that we have made the choice to believe one way or the other we just assume that what we believe is the way it is.

It is not their ending it is just the belief they are trying to change in others to match their own. They have a whole life philosophy built upon that belief. You are just seeing where the non-believer and believer differ on their most basic belief.

Our ideas of compassion, love, fear, morality, etc... are all very similar on their most basic level.

Everything else that the theists assert is completely ad hoc (that's "pulled out of their @ss", for those of you in Rio Linda), unless and until they prove their central tenets: "God exists", and "belief in the sacrifice of Jesus guarantees eternal life in heaven".

There's no point in discussing anything else they have to say if you don't have that foundation to build upon.

For some people that is the existance of their faith. How can you believe in GOD unless you believe he exists?

Because absent existence, worship is fairly pointless.

Would you continue to buy gas for a car you sold 15 years ago?
