we need air to breathe and stay alive ... HELLO

We turn pale when we are frightened because the blood in our cheeks in diverted to do a more urgent job. At the same time our hearts begin to beat much faster, and we breathe more quickly.

When we sit still, our hearts beat at about 70 or 80 times a minute, pumping the blood through our bodies. The blood carries nourishment from food, and oxygen from the air we breathe, both which are vitally necessary for the body to function. If we take violent exercise, our muscles need to work much harder and faster than when we are sitting or walking. They therefore need extra nourishment and oxygen. The nerves carry the message to that part of the brain called the hypothalamus, the center of an automatic nervous system in control of internal bodily functions such as the pumping of the heart, breathing and digestion.

Impulses from the hypothalamus travel down the spinal cord and excite other nerve cells-'sympathetic' neurons-which end in the center of medulla of the adrenal glands just above the kidneys. These glands release the hormone adrenalin into the blood-stream, which causes the heart to beat faster and more efficiently, dilates air passages in the lungs and the blood vessels that supply the muscles, and increased the concentration of energy-giving glucose in the blood.

In fact, when we are frightened, exactly the same physical changes take place and our bodies are immediately and efficiently prepared for the violent exercise of flight or fight without any voluntary efforts on our part.

I am sorry if everyone has been being mean. I won't be that way. You need air because remember those people that go to space? They need to wear those helmets. That is because they need oxygen. I think you would have known that but oh well! If you still don't know ill write a little more! So you are breathing right now right? So when you breath the carbon dioxide gets out of your body and the oxygen/air is going in your body. You won't live if you hold your breath or your system gets clogged and you don't get air through your system. Sort of like you need air in your lungs. You need air in your lungs or you will get your lungs dried up! That is all I can think of right now. Srry if people has been mean to you. Bye bye!

It's not so much that we need air, as we need the Oxygen in it.

Life is basically a constant use of energy consumed. There is always an exchange, chemically and electrically, between the life and the environment around it. In our case, Oxygen is a major force in getting things done. With other living things, Carbon Dioxide, or even chemicals that would kill us are part of their energy exchange.

If adapted, humans could get oxygen from other sources, but air is what we are made for. Fish are made to get it from water. Trees from Carbon Dioxide.

We need to breathe in order to get oxygen from the air for our lungs, heart and blood to survive. When air is dirty, it can make it hard to breathe and sometimes, it can make you sick! Plants and animals also need air because they breathe too.

I think the person is asking WHY we need oxygen. You cant say "so we can get oxygen to our organs" He/She wants to know why our body needs oxygen to function.

And unlike the sarcastic as*holes on here...Ill actually answer this. You need air (oxygen) for respiration. This makes things such as glucose.
