Perhaps. Religion may be closer to show business than it is to God.

I think a lot of show people are anti religion because they are against anything that requires self control or abstination, like drinking, drugs, sex and abortion. But I also think there are a lot of God fearing celebs who aren't all over the place partying/

Listen to the song "Jesus Christ Superstar".... ;-)
"Every time I look at you
I don't understand
Why you let the things you did
Get so out of hand
You'd have managed better
If you'd had it planned
Now why'd you choose such a backward time
And such a strange land?
If you'd come today
You could have reached the whole nation
Israel in 4 BC had no mass communication"

"True" religions? Or the tele-vangelizing-money-making institutions? Cause they say they don't care about denominations but when we're talking about 20's and 50's then they're talking. Haha.

At times, but mostly I find it's used for win-win situations, never fully (although disproportionately at times) for personal gain.

Absolutely, it's the art of storytelling- and the willing suspension of disbelief.
