I am looking for the best photo editing software that will do black and white photos with certain objects of color in them, that does not cost a small fortune! Thanks!

There are photo-editors that can do these things where you don't even have to pay, just download. Like, I use PhotoFiltre mainly. It's quite handy, can do what most pricey editors can do, and is free. No, it will not destroy your computer, I've used it for several months now, and it has caused no problems whatsoever. Download it on www.photofiltre.com

To do what you are asking, first open up the image in PhotoFiltre. Use the Selection Tool to click on the Polygon Tool. Then, trace around the part of the picture that you want colored. After completing it, copy what you have selected.
Then, right-click on the selection, and choose "Hide Selection" Click on Filter>Aged Effect>Black and White. Then, go to the spot that you wanted colored, and paste the colored picture. Save that and voila! ^_^
Ask me if you need more help! ^_^

Photoshop will cost a big fortune (not a small one). If you cannot get a copy of it, buy Paintshop Pro. One thing that I usually do is buy the older version software. For example, you may be able to find Photoshop 5.0 for $20 on eBay.

Hi! I use both PhotoShop and PaintShop Pro and teach both at a local college. Actually, I teach web graphics for which we only use PaintShop Pro now. I resisted like the devil at first because I loved my PhotoShop and didn't believe any $99 program could possibly be worth having to edit graphics. I was wrong!

PaintShop Pro is fantastic. I highly recommend it to all of my students and colleagues who are going to anything but highly complex graphics work. For professional graphics artists they want and need more customized control that really expensive software (like PhotoShop) can give, but with PaintShop Pro you can really do an awful lot, I use it almost exclusively now. It provides for enough customization for most users.

Hope that helps!
