Yes it is 100% possible for an "athlete", child, teenager, adult of any gender and have hypertension.

You don't state your age, normal B/P should be around 120/70
High normal blood pressure 130-139 to 85-89
Stage 1 (mild) hypertension 140-159 to 90/99
Stage 2 (moderate) hypertension 160-179 100-109
Stage 3 (Severe) hypertension 180-209 110-119
Stage 4 (Very Severe) hypertension 210 or higher 120 or higher

For your information the lower numbers to the right is your "Diastolic Blood Pressure. This is the beats I would hear when I release the pressure from the cuff. The higher numbers to the left is your Systolic Blood Pressure, the beats I hear when I increase pressure around the cuff.

The diastolic reading is the really bad one and can give you a stroke, because you have the pressure in your vains even though the pressure is release in the cuff.

High Blood Pressure is a silent killer.

You don't say what kind of athlete you are. I can assume that you lift weights. Excessive muscles can put alot of pressure on your vains an arteries and cause hypertension.

Myself any patient that I see and their Diastolic Blood Pressure is over say 90, I will put them on a calcium blocker an diuretic.

My professional opinion that if your B/P, is 140/90 and you let the 90 go up it becomes alot more difficult to get it back down and you can have a stroke. So I prefer to treat any "diastolic", reading that is at 90 or above.

There is really no excuse in the world to have a major stroke with all the High Blood Pressure, medications out there in the market.

Please see your doctor if you diastolic or your systolic reading is above the table I have given you at the top.

Another word of advise, some hypertension medications have alot more side effects. So if your are put on a medication or medications, make sure that you go back and see your doctor ASAP, if you are having side effects. (Example, there are alot of side effects with "Beta Blockers").

I prefer Calcium Blockers as they are new on the market and
have little or no side effects.

Take good care of your health and don't have a stroke.

Kidney stones are very painful! continual low point dehydration from not ingesting adequate water is blamed for stones in young ones who don't have the different kidney correct issues. whilst water is inadequate to clean the kidneys of waste, crystals strengthen in the kidneys and stones are shaped. Passing the stones out of the kidneys is extra desirable than them staying there to ultimately "kill" the kidney. Neither a magnificent concept. Gatorade has lots of electrolytes and sodium and could upload to the strengthen of kidney stones. not something can substitiute clean clean organic water. Drink a minimum of 64ozs of water daily to maintain your physique clean and stay healty. Its okay to drink gatorade too, yet dont eat too lots. too lots of something stable is undesirable. =)
