Youve probably also heard about the Islamic villages where, as punishment under Islamic law, a sister is raped for the bad deeds of her brother...right? These Islamic legal theories come from this aya and many others like it...Allah is condemning a woman to eternal hellfire, not for her deeds, but for the deeds of her husband. What else can you say but "wow".

Sorry, that was off the cuff and rude. The real answer is that this is why we can't try to freeze God into a book. Women were treated as inferiors and as the property of their husbands back then. By the grace of God, that's different now.
I wouldn't interfere with any person's right to practice religion, but I'd shoot a man for raping a woman. And then do we remember what we call it when we blame God for the evil that men do? That's blasphemy. And pretending to speak for God, but saying evil things? That can't be very good either.
The things you are talking about here are clearly wrong, so it is clear to me that these things aren't from God, because God is good. If you ever get confused about what is and what is not from God, just apply this simple rule: if it isn't good, it can't possibly be from God. That solves a lot of problems.

Well, once again men write it & the blame goes to the diety.
My guess is that most of the bad things attributed to any diety, (& I was raised Methodist) has more to do with what the 'gents' who wrote it felt that day & what God should say or be like, than actual facts, of which there are none.
I am just in awe of the mortals who wrote/write or imagine they can interpret this kind of stuff. That is why there are so many people who are interested in destruction of all infidels, instead of trying to work to make things better! Gotta love organized religion...or even disorganized religion...
