My doberman loves to do this. I get her the heaviest natural rope that the farm supply store sells.

My sheltie loves to play tug-o-war or to jump up and hang from a rope with his teeth. I would suggest being very careful and not be to forceful with them as it may injure their mouth or jaws. With my pup purchased some cheap work socks and tied them together and he loves to play with them. He also loves rope toys but most are too delicate so he shreds them up, too. I would go to the hardware or farm store and purchase some thick rope. This may be more durable and save you from having to buy new toys over and over.

You really should not encourage this. It could lead to all kinds of problems later on. Consider whether your dog (I assume it's a pit?) "likes" this kind of game because you reinforce this behavior and reward him for it.

Pit people think this is a fun way to treat their dogs, and it is intended to help the dog learn to bite and never let go. Is this healthy behavior for a dog? Do you want to teach your dog to shred anyone or anything it bites?

Sounds like a lawsuit to me. And if your dog should do major damage to someone, can you imagine the judgment against you when the lawyers find out that you deliberately TAUGHT your dog to act that way?

Wow. Wouldn't want to be you....

I would think that only cotton ropes would be safe for his teeth and gums. You should check with a marine shop to see if you can get some of those really big ones that are braided that they use to tie large boats.

That's not too good for his jaw and his teeth. His teeth will start to fall out. I'd suggest him not to continue this habit and find some toys around the house for him to play with.
