It seems that some people on here are pretty stuffy about things. I tend to find humor in everything, especially when I'm being insulted by people that don't know me. How about you? Do you take the opinion of a stranger seriously?

No, it's not.

Especially if you know the life of St. Francis of Assisi. He was called God's Troubadour (a singer) and the Holy Fool. Laughing, singing and silliness was his road to Heaven, his pathway to profound mysticism **AND** the renewal of the church at his time.

St. Francis was a young charming man who spent his days drinking and being silly. Basically throwing away his father's money.

Even though he was raised Catholic, he never took his faith to heart. Then he had a conversion. He founded a group of "brothers." The French word for brother is frere. That's where we get Friar from. The original Franciscans were not priests. They were not ordained.

Francis and the "Lesser Brothers" (from Matthew's Gospel - ...who ever does this for one of these my Lesser Brothers...) embraced the poverty of Jesus. They lived very poor and joyous lives. They were often very VERY silly.

They were itinerant preachers, like Jesus. Running around in their poor tattered robes preaching the Good News of Jesus. Often mocked and beaten. But still having a good time.

There is an old black and white film now on DVD, you can pick it up on Netflix. It will show you how silly they were. Oh those Franciscans...

You'll find, even today, friars and monks have a life and spirit to them that parish priests are lacking.

I don't take anyone's opinion seriously. Yes, having a sense of humor helps to attain true spiritual enlightenment. Because some funny things are going to happen to you along the way. My spirit guide cracks jokes all the time.

Humor is the medicine for people in a lonely and sad state. There are kinds of humor however that may not help others to be in the best of their spirits. Insulting humor is one of them. Making fun of others miseries may not also be healthy. Good and encouraging words are more helpful to the spirit if it is delivered with humor that makes one smile. So, select the kind of humor that lifts the spirit even to yourself.

I find humor in many things and I believe humor is necessary for living this life with or without faith. LOL If you don't believe our Creator has a sense of humor then how do you explain the platypus and romance? Both tend to be funny or funny looking.

No, a sense of humor is not detrimental to spiritual development "unless" it is mocking our Lord Jesus Christ. Humor involving God the father and His son Jesus Christ is not humorous.

The LORD laughs at the wicked, for he sees that their day is coming. (PS 37:13)

I don't think a sense of humor is harmful at all,

but you have to know when to take things seriously, too.

Having a sense of humor and laughter is a gift from God. It's when people are vulgar, insult and mock God is when it stepped over the line.

Even God has a sense of humor. Look at some of the animals he created.
However God is to be taken seriously. It's an abomination to poke fun of God and his teachings.
Shucks....He even created Atheists...Some folks think that is a hoot.

It depends on what it is but mostly not. Only God's judgement of me matters anyways Also, if that person is using God's name to do humor then to me there is no humor in that or respect for that matter. I take God seriously.
