Usually 2:1, water:rice. 20 minutes for regular white, 5 minutes for instant, 40 minutes for brown rice. Cover your pot.

White Rice: 1 Part Rice, 2 Parts Water, Bring to a boil then cover & simmer 15-20 minutes.

Brown Rice: 1 Part Rice, 2 1/2 Parts Water, Bring to a boil then cover & simmer 40-45 minutes.

I like adding salt, garlic, butter or olive oil, and boullien cubes to the water before boiling... it's so good!

I usually steam my rice in a steamer. I use one cup of water with one cup of rice in the bowl and 1 1/2 cups of water in the resevoir underneath. For long grain this usually takes about 26 - 30 minutes. If you are boiling, there are usually some generall instructions on the back of the package. I believe it is 1 cup of rice with 2 cups of water will yeild about 3 cups when done (4 servings). Two cups of rice with 4 cups of water will yeild about 6 cups and serve 8.

It's usually 1 3/4-2 cups of water to 1 cup of rice. Rice, water, shot of oil to rolling boil. stir for about 5 minutes. turn heat down to low, med-low. and cover for about 15 minutes.
It all depends on your stove, how much you cook, and what type of pot that will determine how your rice will turn out. Just make sure to check for burning if the heat is too high. Sooner or later you'll the "perfect" pot of rice! It just takes practice and patience! :)

I cook perfect rice almost every time and so does my sister-in-law. Put enough water in you rice to cover it. I usually put twice the water for the rice. Let it cook please do not stir it like your cooking grits. Yuk! Add your butter to water let it come to a boil then add your rice. Cook for about 15 minutes. My sister-in-law brings water to a boil adds rice and turns off the stove with the pot covered and it works perfectly for her. Either method should work for you.
