Theres several...and really it all just depends. The effects of any of the medications (Zoloft, Paxil, Prozac, Lexapro, Welbutrin...aka Zyban...etc., etc., the list goes on forever) on any one certain person varies so much its kind of a guessing game. For me, none of the above so far, but Elavil and Trazadone are good and they are antidepressants, but they make you sleepy. Although I dont really think that matters much since you are being weaned off xanax right now. Elavil (amitryptiline) and trazadone are inexpensive, but they are older medications and they may be difficult to get a dr to prescribe since they tend to prescribe the newer ones with less side effects. Good luck

Xanax is a trnquilizer. Paxil is an anti-depressant used for panic disorder. Frankly, I used to have severe panic disorder and I was helped tremendously by a program from the Midwest Center for Panic and Depression. It's by Lucinda Bassett, who was also a former panic/depression sufferer.

I suggest that you frankly tell your doctor all of your symptoms and problems. You should NOT be suggesting drugs to your Doctor. You should listen to his advice -- not people on the Internet who do not have medical degrees and have not seen your medical history. There are lots of good drugs and drug combinations for panic disorder. I am sure that your doctor can find the best one for you. It sometimes takes several attempts before you are happy (no side effects). This process is NORMAL.

From my own research, Paxil is best for panic disorders. It is also used for social anxiety disorders.

I would try Zanax. Take only minutes to work. But would ask your DR. what is best for you!

Lexapro might help you; it has virtually no side effects. Bring this up with your DR.

Sugar, chocolates or any sweets, just make you are not going to over eat. It will make you calm. Don't take so much anti depressant.
