You usually can't go wrong with a light creamy yellow or a pale sage green...these go well with almost all other colors and add color to the room while remaining fairly neutral.

U should consider the light that comes in the living room but also what kind/color of furniture u have or plan on getting. I wouldn't say paint blue and u have orange or red furniture. Not that u couldn't make it work. First find out what furniture u r putting in the living room. What color scheme u plan to follow from there. Do u want to coordinate with it or go to the opposite spectrum. Then u consider on the light source and if u plan to make it lighter or darker. Then get to a paint store. Best places are Lowe's or Home Depot. U should get paint choices line them up and pick the best ones u like. U have to live with the choices.
Good luck to u and happy painting!

I think the answer relies on the amount of light coming into the room and whether you consider yourself a night owl or a morning person.

If there's a lot of light, then by all means use a pastel tone, but if there's barely any light, or if you don't usually use the room except at night, then I would go for a deeper color, maybe an old favorite. I tend to like an oriental blue. Think also about the lighting in that room and if it's an incandescent vs a flourescent, think of what colors might be best suited for that kind of light, do tests with the lights at night with your swatches on the wall. Make sure you can really imagine what it feels like before you do it.

Good luck.

Lighter colors are best for larger rooms, contrary to popular belief, while darker ones can make a small room look larger, esp. if the cieling and floor are darker too. Check your furniture, rugs and accessories, such as artwork, and try to take a color you like from there. Say you like the nice orange-red in your rug; try that on the walls, or some of them. Warm colors are good for colder, north-facing rooms, whereas cooler colors are good for south-facing ones, giving the illusion of "coolness", esp. in summer.

Personally, I find almost all shades of blue & grey to be depressing! One art site wrote: "Blue is considered the color of sadness and introspection. But blue is also the color of serenity, and Royalty." (http://www.absolutearts.com/artsnews/2005/07/06/33137.html)

However, if you're a naturally upbeat or "hyper" person, blue might be a good choice for you. I'm hopelessly stuck in the neutrals (beige, cream) phase...I find that it suits my mood well.

In addition to the sites listed below, DIY (on tv and the 'net) has some excellent instructions on both selecting paint and how to paint correctly. HGTV.com is also a good source, with a forum you can share ideas with.

Happy painting!

That is going to totally depend on your decorating style and what kind of furniture you have in there. Is it a traditional room..how often is it used...what's your style??? Do you have a fabric sofa and if so what are the colours.. not sure strangers over the internet will be able to help you with this one.. If you have a throw cushion from your couch..take it into a paint store and ask there advice. Not sure where you live but Benjamin Moore paint is excellent and they always have helpfull staff who would be able to help you with this. Take in some photos of the room and of your style of decorating. How many windows and door also affects the paint choices. I have Jackson Tan in my Family room...and Jamesborough Gold in my living room/dining room..they are both gorgeous colours... it needs to flow with the rest of the house also...especially if open concept design. Good luck..
