In addition to the other good ideas above, I would add one more: that it's worth telling your son specifically that the edge of the urinal is not a "resting place" for his penis. Because when I was a kid my brother did put his there. As you can imagine, it's not a clean and pleasant place to put it, but I'm sure other little boys might think of that too. Good luck!

Hmm... you can get books on this - perhaps you should buy one.
Personally I didn't use the school toilets at all, I just waited until I got home. I started using them at secondary school but never once at primary school. It wasn't a problem for me at all and I didn't suffer any bladder problems over this.
I hear that people set up a target in the WC to aim at (like a small disc of paper) to act as a point to aim the wee at.
Have you ever tried using a female urinal? Perhaps if you learnt how to do this then you could be a better teacher at this - it is something easy to do and the only reason why most western women don't learn is the antiquated notion that the vulva is unclean. http://www.myvag.net/pee/standing/ tells you how to do this basic function.
Anyway good luck with the urinal training and I hope your son does very well in school. Have a great day!

Well, if your son is already standing at the regular toilet, it shouldn't be too much of a problem. I am assuming that there is no 'father-figure' involved, or this would probably be his area of expertise. My first suggestion would be an uncle, grandfather, or close male family friend, who could possibly take your son to a public rest room, where there are urinals and explain and demonstrate their use. If this is not possible, then I would ask if there is a male teacher at the school who could perhaps explain to your son and the other little boys how to perform at a urinal.
This is a complicated subject for a single mother, and as a single mother of a little boy, I do understand your frustration. I am not sure what to tell you except that this is one area where a little boy probably needs a man's help.
So sorry for your difficulty!

Forget about the urinal and get him to aim at something for the meantime - like a smiley or whatever (pretend the loo is broken)+(they will find the amusement in this) - in the back yard or the back of the loo etc. Tell him that is how boys do it when they get bigger. Make a game of it then move onto the ''wee wee wall''.

My son had an issue with this. We had little foam aimers we threw in the toilet at home though, so we would pee where he was supposed to. I ended to sending some to school with him and the teachers told him to aim for them in the urinal. He got the idea real quick.
For outside of school, he was still a little reluctant. My husband told me that he told him the little johnny cake at the bottom was an aimer, lol. And now he's a pro. Well, he's 6... but he's been fine with it for some time now. :)

well how old is he. By the time my son was 3 he was peeing standing up. I told him to stand close to the toilet, hold his penis and point it in the toilet towards the water and pee. You may have to help him how to hold the first time but after that he will be able to do it himself. If this is what the school wants they should also be helping.

if dad is not around get a trusted friend or family member to take him to a gents public loo.i hadnt thought about this and had to ask my partner if my 3 year old uses them and apparrently he does when he takes him.
my son was very unwilling to pee outside till we went to the races on a coach and before getting on to go home all the blokes lined up by a hedge and had a last min pee,he thought it was hilarious and joined in alongside his dad!the ability to pee outside is very handy when nappy training!
hope that helps,all the best.

he could be shy & not want everyone looking at him. This is the job for a man..a man is supposed to teach this, as women you. are not allowed in the mens room.
If your a single mom, Get a Man. that will help....

Can't you encourage him to stand up at a regular toilet as a starting point? Then hopefully he could progress from there!
