I ran across this quote on the Net:

The ink of the scholar is more sacred than the blood of the martyr. ~Mohammed

I am assuming this is the prophet, Mohammed.

If he said this, where did he say it? I did a search within an online version of the Koran, but I could not find it. Was this wisdom imparted outside of the Koran?

I am struck by this quote. It is a good quote, and I hope that those all faiths can realize that enlightenment does not come about through violence.

It is a Hadith, that is a collection of things said by the Prophet Mohammed (pbuh). They are a supplement or explanation to the things in the Koran.

you shouldnt search for Muhammad's words in the Qur'an because he doesnt have any in there. They are all God's words, and God talks to Muhammad frequently in the Qur'an.
