These are distant relatives of mine. I have the children's names, the surname, and I have an old address that was theirs about 13 years ago. I don't know if I should send something to that location though in case they've moved. Any tips?

I should also add that we all used to exchange letters when I was younger, so they know of me. I didn't just come across this information randomly.

Rustskippers: That'd be great if you could do that. :)

Hey Witchy_Woman,

If you are looking for living, it is different than looking for deceased. Anyway, here are sites for Genealogy research, then People Finders.

I would send letters to them with a return address, e-mail and telephone numbers. I don't know any of my family in the West Indies so I sent a blanket letter to everyone with the surname I was looking for and total strangers responded, so family might get in touch. You may find that it takes a while to get a response but don't give up. I got responses 1 year later! Check census records for the last known address or go to the BT website and type in their details. Explain why you are contacting them and let them know you are not looking for any 'skeletons'. Most people have e-mail these days so they may try to contact you that way as they may not know what to say to you. Good luck! Stick with it, it will pay off in the end.

Send a short letter to the old address. If that fails, send an appeal letter for help in finding the family,to their local newspaper. Just address the letter to "Local newspaper"......then the town, area, etc. Good luck
