It is an imaginary place conceived of by various theists. It is believed to be true by unreasonable people.

The word “hell” is found in many Bible translations. In the same verses other translations read “the grave,” “the world of the dead,” and so forth.
What are those words? The Hebrew she’ohl′ and its Greek equivalent hai′des, which refer, not to an individual burial place, but to the common grave of dead mankind;
The right question should be: "Does the Bible indicate whether the dead experience pain?"
Not according to Ecclesiastes. 9:5, 10: “The living are conscious that they will die; but as for the dead, they are conscious of nothing at all . . . All that your hand finds to do, do with your very power, for there is no work nor devising nor knowledge nor wisdom in Sheol,* the place to which you are going.” (If they are conscious of nothing, they obviously feel no pain.)
Psalms. 146:4: “His spirit goes out, he goes back to his ground; in that day his thoughts* do perish.”

Hell can be described as the state of being separate or apart from what is good. It exists in this world around us...every day.
Seek out what is good and one can move closer to heaven. It also exists in this world...every day.

Hell was made for the devil and the false prophet. Hell is a place of eternal torment where the fire never go out or is not quenched and the worm dies not.
Those who are not written in the Lamb's Book of Life are cast into Hell where the devil and the false prophet are tormented. Then after the Great White Throne Judgement hell and all that are not written in the Lamb's Book of Life are cast into the Lake of Fire.
Mark 9:44 - Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.
Mark 9:46 - Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.
Mark 9:48 - Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.
Mark 9:43 And if thy hand offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter into life maimed, than having two hands to go into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched: 44 Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched. 45 And if thy foot offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter halt into life, than having two feet to be cast into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched: 46 Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched. 47 And if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out: it is better for thee to enter into the kingdom of God with one eye, than having two eyes to be cast into hell fire: 48 Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched. 49 For every one shall be salted with fire, and every sacrifice shall be salted with salt. 50 Salt is good: but if the salt have lost his saltness, wherewith will ye season it? Have salt in yourselves, and have peace one with another.
Revelation 19:20 - And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshipped his image. These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone.
Revelation 20:10 - And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever.
