I am dental student and taking the class very seriosly. I study every night and really work my butt off when its test time. Anyway-there are 4 students in class that are cheating. Today we had another MAJOR test and she not only had the answers she even penciled in lightly on her desk the answers. She than turned to me and said "if i see any wrong ones on your I'll let you know" i said "no thanks" i wanted to pass on my own. Now should I be peeved cause Im up late studying and her and others are cheating. Hell I could do that to but I wont. Should I say something or leave it alone? Part of me wants to but another part of me says let it go. SIGH.....what would you do?????

I know it's tempting to say something, but in the end you will have the satisfaction of knowing you were honest and didn't cheat! You will have worked hard and earned every grade and your degree with integrity. If your other classmates found out you tattled on them, it could create animosity. Let it go, and keep up the good work!

I like the idea of putting an anonymous note in the teacher's in-box. The teacher needs to be paying more attention to his/her class during tests and this may be a good reminder to do just that. Remember, you are going to be competing with these cheaters for jobs when you get out. Don't believe that only the good win. I hate to sound cynical, but its true. You need to protect yourself. You are being very honorable, and letting the teacher know about someone who is really cheating is not compromising yourself at all. You should feel good about yourself for doing so. Would you want someone working on your teeth if they cheated in school??? I wouldn't!!

Ask yourself if the actions of these students has any effect on you. For example, if the course is graded on a curve, then their cheating has a direct impact on your ability to succeed. If this is the case, then you have a duty to yourself to report it.

If, however, their cheating has no impact on you, I wouldn't bother. The only people they're hurting are themselves, and their cheating will not take them far, as it's unlikely that they'll be able to cheat in every class.

I agree with Pink Panther. (I can't believe how that sounds - that's not something I ever envisioned myself as saying...lol) Anyway, you're the one working for your grade while others are cheating their way to theirs. They've obviously not understood the concept of cause and effect & yes, they'll be hurting themselves in the long run....but at this moment, they're hurting you & others who are putting forth *honest* effort.

I would report them, and personally I'd do it in public. However, this isn't wise. Retribution could be very troubling. So, your best bet to do something to change the dynamics to something for level and fair for everyone, would be to report them anonymously.

Good luck & I'm just proud that there are still young people who are out there trying to do the right thing, even though it might hurt.

You shouldnt have said no thx... no talking during a test... you could have failed th etest just for talking at ALL.... I would leave an anonymous note or email for the teacher that 4 are cheating and its making you uncomfortable. It is usually best to mind your own business but you dont want to go down with them. Request a new seating chart.

They are only cheating themselves in the long run. Think about how when you meet them years down the road, you'll have had a successful practice and they are floundering and can't understand why. Keep up the good work!!

I would leave it alone. Don't be mad that you are staying up late and studying because when you are in the work field you'll know what you are talking about instead of half assing it like your classmates do.
Just know that hard work pays off in the end.

If you saw someone shoplifting in a store, would you report him/her?

Would you want someone poking around in your mouth who passed all her exams because she cheated on them? It's doubtful that these cheaters will make it that far, but I think my initial question covers the overall reality of cheating. If you would let someone steal something without saying anything, then I guess you should just ignore these cheaters.

the first thing that I would do is to ask myself some questions. Like would you feel safe having that person work in your mouth?
then if you still feel uncomfortable try and set up an appointment with the teacher and let them know about it

I'd have to report it myself. You are doing all that honest work and they are getting more credit than you. You could do it anonymously so as not to cause a wave amongst you peers. I could imagine that this is not a easy decision for you. Good luck and stay honest.
