My little brother is 6, we've had Patches for about two years now, she has always been sensitive around her stomach, cause she's fixed. Anyway, i get mad at my brother because he's kinda rough with her, this time i saw him, he gently petted her head, and she tried to scratch him. I pat her head and say "no" (because its worked before when i potty trained her) but, she's already scratched him one, too many times...how can i fix this?

I had a cat like this, and I put some tape on her paws for a day and then every time she scratched me or someone else in a way that wasn't necessary... ie... when someone walked in the door, or she hopped on them - they pet her - and she scratches. It took about a month, but after that, we had VERY few scratching incidences.

Also, make sure you keep her claws clipped by trimming them at least once a week!

You have to keep in mind that cats, just like people, have different personalities though. Some just don't like people, some don't like kids. Keep this in consideration when you are dealing with her. Eventually, both her and your brother though, will learn boundaries!

Good luck!

She is already conditioned to think he is going to hurt her and she is ready for him. He needs to completly leave her alone and with time she will come around him, and then he still needs to leave her alone. When she is ready to get attention from him on her own terms, when she feels safe with him she will let him know.
