The guy who lives next door to me is steadily losing his grip on reality and I think he's going to do something harmful to someone soon. He's already threatend to burn the other neighbor's house down, he drives around spitting on people, constantly yelling obsenities to anyone, calls all the girls in the nieghborhood sluts and whores, and now he is obsessed with me. I caught him going through my trash, and he waits for me to come home and hides behind his fence and hisses like a demon. He does not work, has no friends, house is paid off and he drinks everyday to excess. He also spouts off right wing propaganda so....probably has a gun. We have gone to the police several times, and they warned him initially but now they won't do anything because they don't really want to get involved since he is on his property when he does these things. He never threatens...he just f/u's us anytime we are both outside, making it extremely difficult for my wife and I to enjoy our home. Help..

You are entitled to the peace and tranquitlity of your home. I would hire an attorney and ask him to pursue what ever legal action is necessary. Working with this attorney, set up some video surveliance and start gathering indisputable evidence of his antics. If you live in a subdivision that has an Home Owners Association (HOA) there should be deed restrictions that call for controlling of noise and such.
I would also recommend you build a very large privacy fence and block all view between the homes.
However, your very FIRST move, is to seek legal counsel. I would suggest you call a few different attorneys and try to find one that has dealt with this type of litigation before. Keep in mind that if you are able to prove your case, you can force him to pay for all your legal and attorney fees as well.
Good luck.. and remember... don't take the law into your own hands as you will only make it worse!

call your community branch of social amenities. they'd have an man or woman protective amenities branch that would nicely be of information. It appears like the guy has a psychological ailment alongside with alcoholism, yet something desires to be performed. Harrassment isn't allowable. it doesn't understand that he's on his personal resources. you're prepared to get a restraining order, even if the Justice of the Peace would take heed to the tale and in worry-free words enable a "no trespass" order that isn't accomplish a lot in view that he's no longer coming onto your resources. surely... if he's starting to be keen about you, digging with the help of your trash and waiting so you might come domicile so he can hiss at you etc, that would come less than the "No stalking" guidelines. i'd proceed to visit the police branch or communicate with an officer who handles stalkers (do not keep in mind the dep.) because think ofyou've got adequate to press expenditures adversarial to him already... for harrassment if no longer something else... strong success, and stay probability-free.

I knew the police would not want to get involved, that's how they are. What good are they except to try to bust you for speeding so they can make money off a ticket. But how can they make money off your situation?... Anyway, my parents have horrible neighbors too, for many years. Calling the police only seems to make matters worse for them so they don't do that...But, their neighbors are not as bad as yours it sounds... Here's what you could do;
1. Burn down his house when he's not home - which I'm sure you have concidered - but know that while the police won't do anything about him - they will bust you. (so don't do that)
or 2. you could move away.
Good luck.

maybe leave him a straightjacket in his mailbox??..lol..
all kidding aside..there's really nothing you can do..if he stays on his property, the law more often than not will not do anything about him until he actually does something..which we all know is crazy..but thats what our government thinks of us I guess...You can try and ask the police to file a harrasment charge against him..which I'm sure would only tick him off more...but it may open his eyes to what he's doing..some people are just born as*holes and try to ruin everyone else's life.
Good Luck

Wow, I would think the police have to do something, go up on the ladder to the city officials and state your problem, do it in writing and in person. Once you do this do not stop, keep a daily account of the things this guy does, copy them and send them to the people in charge. Or the other thing is to just knock him out.

Sounds like you need to seriously report this to the police. Maybe get a video camera to secretly record thsi neighbor doing these things. Write a journal and record on paper, date, time, and what he is doing. Maybe even snap some shots, if you can do it secretly also. This is so you have proof of his antics toward you and such.....take care and be safe.

I agree with the person who said to contact a lawyer FIRST. Some of the other suggestions are good, but some states have laws that could prosecute you if you video or voice record any of his actions. Weird, I know. If all else fails...move! :-)

Get a shredder. Then call social services or the united way and ask if there is anything you can do to get this boy some help. Could be he is just off his medication...
Good Luck

Damn. At this point I would press harassment charges against him. Sounds like he may have a mental illness, poor guy. Yet you and your wife have a right to live in peace.
