Would dying over my roots with a home dye kit cover them?

I got my hair done in a salon a little over a month ago. My hair is naturally light brown, but I got it dyed all over to a lighter, more golden brown, and I got golden blonde highlights all over. Now my roots are in about half an inch.

I want to change the colour now to a blonde that is more white than golden, and I'm hoping to do this with a box of normal dye from the drug store. What do you think the effect will be if I do this?

I'm guessing there will still be 3 different colours in my hair, and that's fine. I'm most worried about my roots though, I don't know what colour they would end up.

I could go back to the salon to get it done, but I'm feeling cheap, so I'm hoping a home dye will do it, but I don't want to ruin my hair either. Thoughts?

Regardless of how you're feeling now, I can guaruntee you that you'll be feeling a lot less cheap when you're hair is 5 different colors!

Lifting the color of your roots should be a seperate process all together. That is why stylist use foil, they can control each individual section of hair all at one time. You can not do that with a bottle of peroxide splatted on your head.

If the highlights you already have come in contact with more bleaching agents, they will become more damaged than the other darker areas of your hair. You can only lift so many levels to blonde before damaging the follicle PERMANENTLY. Stylist can control and minimize the damge of your hair when it comes to bleaching.

Your roots will be darker than the rest of your hair no matter what you do. That is unless you leave the bleach in long enough to strip all your hair of all its pigments, which looks terribly unnatural and fried.

Please leave intricate hair color up to your stylist. You'll end up spending more to get your mistakes fixed in the long run!

The box of dye is not going to change the color of the brown hair dye at all...it will more than likely just turn your roots bright orange too depending on what shade you buy and how dark your hair is

you cannot color over dye with a lighter dye...you can only dye it darker...your best be would be to get the same color dye they used and dye your roots...the go back to the salon and get them to highlight your hair more heavily to make it lighter and blend it all in...dyeing your roots yourself with color should save you at least $30 and 45 min at a salon

It is not a good idea.I tried it and it made my roots orange and it doesn't look very good so i had to go to the salon any way so go to a beauty school place and get it done thier it is cheaper anyway

Going white blond typically requires bleach followed by color. I've done that at home but it is a real challenge and if you don't normally experiment with home hair color, I would advise seeing a professional.
