As others have said, some of the prisoners were evacuated. Many were not. Another sad thing was that due to the storm, due process of the law was interrupted, with many people being held long past the time they should have been due to loss of records, etc. Check the websites below for more information.

since there was more than enough warning for everybody to evacuate the prisoners were shipped to other places . this is a great example on how much money was wasted in rescue efforts after katrina hit

No they were not set free. They were transfered to other facilities until other arrangements for more permanent housing could be made.

since Louisiana is a Demorat state, and NO the biggest canker of the bunch, they were most likely left to drown.

set free and now the majority of them are living happily in houston robbing stores and stealing cars here...lucky for us.. hopefully they'll make it back to their "chocolate city" soon
