Make a mix of Vegetable stock, beef stock and red wine
Pour in the liquid add the beef joint & a onion studed with cloves, dont forget a muslin bag of mixed herbs then add your other veg like leeks & celery, carrots etc add new potatos about 1hour before you ready to dish up & serve , cook slowly on a low heat
Salt & pepper to taste & some garlic never hurt anybody
Take the joint out after about 6hours to see how its done & cook longer if desired. Serve with the vegetables & potatos that cooked with the meat use the liquid as a soup, or reduce it & make a gravy...

It needs to be covered in water at the start. Depending on the size of the joint, it will probably be okay to eat it after 2 hours, but it will be much more tender if you cook it for a lot longer. Some receipes reccomend as much as 10 to 12 hours. Adding veg like the others say helps to make a nice gravy. Below is a good receipe

Make sure you pre heat cooker, put meat in and cover with boiling water/stock. You can add veg and gravy browning at this point but I prefer to wait until I get home from work then add parboiled veg etc. to retain their flavour and not end up with mush. Dependant on cut of meat I would put it on high the eve before then turn to low when going to work. One other point do not add salt.

you can just do it with some veg and stock cubes but it isn,t too clever really. Your best off with braising steak for your slow cooker. On the other hand you can find a web site on the net that lists any instruction manuel you ask off it.I found it for my washing machie it also gives you the option to print.
