Screen redraw is a bit jerky, pausing every few seonds for a moment..

Because it's running under Rosetta. Illustrator, Photoshop, etc are not Intel native applications, and have to run under emulation, and therefore don't perform to their maximum potential. Adobe has said that they don't plan on making CS2 Universal Binary, but is working on CS3 as a Universal Binary.
