Organic food tastes better - it may not look perfect but it does taste better and it has way more vitamins in it as it ripens naturally and isn't force grown. It is more expensive here in the UK but I think that when you consider everything you eat is broken down and used by the body, it's worth it.
To answer the question asked by answerer No 2, Organic food can't use artificial fertilizers, must be GM free, isn't irradiated and generally hasn't been mucked about with. The Organic Soil Association has to confirm that the land it's grown on has been worked organically for a minimum of four years so there is less likelihood of non-organic contamination. To help the environment, you should try to use locally produced organic products which haven't been flown in from other countries as that's not good for the environment which is what organic farming is all about. Organic farmers also tend to use crop rotation to ensure the earth isn't leached of it's nutrients, rather than putting them in artificially. The reason the food is more expensive is that organic farming is done on a much smaller scale and tends to be more labour intensive than modern farming methods - the yields are lower and there is a higher rate of wastage as the food isn't stuffed full of preservatives

Because most farms specializing in organics are smaller operations though more labor intensive. They have to actively work the crops rather than simply spraying. On the plus side you get chemical free produce. Although many herbicides and pesticides are considered 'safe' who really knows. Most products that have to be pulled from the shelf are discovered to be dangerous years after they first hit the market.
Try going to a local farmers market or look on line in your area for Community Supported Agriculture farms in your area. We are a member of a CSA and pay slightly more than at the grocery store but much less than at an organic market. It's kind of a good feeling to actually know the farmer that grows your produce.

"Organic" is 95% marketing and 5% common sense. Of course it would be nice if we all ate locally-grown, very fresh produce, and it was grown without excessive pesticides, but the truth is, vegetables grown without pesticides are full of the nasty things pesticides kill, so unless you pick them, cook them and eat them within a few hours, organic veggies are full of bugs and rotten bits.
You almost can't avoid mass-farmed products, but you can buy cruelty-free. If a chicken is free-range before it's head is hacked off and it's feathers and guts ripped out, it certainly tastes better. That's why it does (and should!) cost more.

it costs more becuase it doesnt have any pescides on it so more gets eaten by bugs even though they use biological thingys
they need more peole to work on the farm who have to be paid
