I recently heard on a radio show that they found a portion of the oldest known version of revelations and it actually indicated that the number of the beast was not 666 but actually 616? What do you know about this and if it is true doesn't it beg the question about biblical accuracy?

Shaun Kennedy, Interesting theory. It kind of sounds right, doesn't it? Who knows but thanks for that valid interpretation.

616 was used in one latin version of Revelation. The number of Nero's name in Greek is 666, but in Latin it's 616, so whoever made that transation prob thought the beast was Nero (which some have thought through the years, and others thought not) and changed the number to match the name he thought while translating.

The mark is to be put on the head signifying how one thinks or on the hand signifying how one works (action to the thougth). Many have taken the numbers 666 to a level of superstition and that is just what santan wants. If satan can have us worried about a group of numbers while he rules our very hearts by controlling our thinking and our actions we will bear his mark and not even know it.God also has a mark or seal that He puts up on those that are His.Christians are covered in the Blood of Jesus yet they are not red as our earthly minds would think. If we want to understand the word of God we have to read it in the Spirit for the flesh will only lie to us.

616 is indeed the actual number. "666" is a mistranslation.
The "number of the Beast," contrary to popular thought, does not at all refer to Satan, but to Nero, emperor of Rome, who was considered "the Beast" to the early Christians. Remember, he is the one that fed them to the lions...
