My 6 mo Scottie puppy was neutred on Friday. I had adopted him and with the cost of the adoption his neuter was included. I had to take him to a Vet that the adoption agency used.
Friday night one of his stiches popped. I called the vet and was told it should be fine (he has 2 stiches left).
Last night I caught the pup licking at it. I told him to stop immediatly which he did, but apon a closer look, the left side of the where the incision was made is red and a little hard and the area around his sack is red. It is not hot to the touch.
He is acting fine, eating as usual, etc.
I don't feel comfortable taking him back to the vet that performed the procedure, the place was 45 mins away, a whole in the wall & I think the a.c. was broken.
What should I do until I can get him into his usual vet?
Please help I am very worried.

It's not unusual for there to be a little redness and swelling the first few days after surgery, but keep the area clean, put Neosporin on it, and watch for signs of continued redness, bleeding, ulceration or pus in or around the surgical site. Also take your dog's temperature twice a day to make sure he's not running a fever. If the redness lasts for more than 2 more days, or if the dog is spiking a fever (anything over 102 degrees) take him to your regular vet, and report the other clinic to your state's Veterinary Review Board.

Actually everything sounds okay.
This happens sometimes and it's nothing to be too concerned about. You shouldn't stop him from licking it though. This is part of the healing process. Dogs lick wounds because they have chemicals in their saliva that promote healing and also help him with any pain. This is very important. If it were a wound that he wasn't supposed to lick, the vet would have put a cone on his head so that he couldn't reach the area. I've seen it happen before.
If there is an infection it WILL be hot to the touch and begin to smell foul. You'll also notice a decline in the dogs activities, eating habits, and play time.
You needn't get concerned unless you begin to see outward signs of an infection like puss. Returning him to the vet at this point isn't going to accomplish anything but padding your vets wallet.
REMEMBER TO ALLOW HIM TO LICK THE WOUND.

Take him to a different vet in your area--one who takes walk-ins. He may need some oral antibiotics to help clear up a possible infection. If he's a licker, he probably should wear an Elizabethan dog collar for a few days to keep from further irritating the wound and pulling the rest of the stitches out.

You know, there is nothing oozing from the wound, right?

It is red on one side and a little hard?

I am a little concerned, but not a lot. Is there an awful odor? I think this dog will be fine.

I would chew out me stitches if I could from a surgery. They itch and irritate.

Watch him....if there starts to be deep red marks with oozing puss that has an odor then he has an infection

Good Luck and Take Care

do your best to keep the pup from licking as this will further anger the site and cause a cycle of itching/irritating/licking. if you have to, purchase an e-collar. yes this will freak him out at first if you have to go this route but they get used to them. a little redness is ok. if you notice any discharge, you should get to a vet because this could signal infection.

Keep an eye on it, and if it gets hotter to the touch, then call your own vet..
You will be wanting to have him under the local vet's care anyway, for routine wormers and shots, etc..Your own vet won't mind checking the incision...If you call, they may have a tech look at your dogs surgical wound at no cost...so, it wouldn't hurt to call and ask..and at the same time set up an appointment for his next shots..

Not much. Don't clean the area with any irritating soap. What's the hold up on getting hime to your regular Vet? That's whats needed.

It could be a skin irritation from licking. You could pick up a collar to make sure he doesn't lick it anymore, or you can put any animal-safe topical antibiotic on it just to be safe.

Keep a close eye on it, and don't let him lick it. If it swells or gets pussy or smells foul, call the vet!

Why would desire to or not it is a eastern call? you do not talk eastern and your dogs isn't eastern. J/ok... my dogs's call is Tsuki, meaning 'moon' in eastern. She is gray and brown, an jogs my memory of the moon. I advise you seek for the eastern translations of words which remind you of your doggy.
