If mom is not available, you'll have a lot of work on your hands. See this site: http://www.peteducation.com/article.cfm?cls=2&cat=1651&articleid=863

If mom is available, just let her do all the work. She'll keep them warm and fed. She'll also make sure they go potty and will clean up after them for the first few weeks.

Things you can look out for though include the following:

1) Watch to make sure mom isn't rejecting any of the pups. She'll push them aside (and may attack them) if she feels any of the pups are "defective" or if she has more than she can care for.

2) Make sure everyone is warm. Puppies that get cold can die very quickly.

3) Listen to the pups. If you hear slurping or smacking sounds when they're nursing it means they aren't able to latch onto mom's teat properly, and won't get a lot of milk for their efforts. Also, it's normal for puppies to make little "mewling" sounds, but if they're screaming or crying constantly, it mean's they're not getting enough food and you may have to step in an bottle feed some of them.

Good luck!

That depend on how old the puppies are and If the mama doggy is able to care for her pups.

If the newborn are really really newborn (the size of your palm) then I suggest you READ up on it from books. I that's what i had to do. When the ***** (mama doggy), was unable to care for her puppies.

I end up making them HOME MADE Carbord Box, with blankets, and they sleep right next to my bed. Many times during the night when they whines and stuff, I would just reach my hand in there and comfort them =). I had Bags under my eyes for a few weeks. Also a newborn puppies need "Special" Treatment as well. You have to buy Powder Baby doggy milk formula specially made for them and mix it with hot or warm water and put that in a bottle. When you think about it, this process is EXACTLY like how you would wean a HUMAN Baby. But could be tricky since you may have to deal with 2 or More of them puppies. It's a tough job, but somebody gotta do it. And the Reward is tremendous Satisfaction knowing that you rescue God special blessing from impending dooom. This also test your ability if you can successfull care for a human baby if you decide to have one. Because careing for puppies and other great household pet is as important as caring for a member of your family. They need healthy Food, regulars baths, Potty trainings, and manners etc.. if they are to live with their owners harmoniously and return their owners with Love and affection. I wish you the best of LUCK. =)

The proper care for newborn puppies are to keep them and the momma in a safe place where the momma feels secure. if the mamma is agressive(protective) of the puppies then give her, her space. If you can get to the puppies then don't handle them too much until about the 3rd week then you can start to hadle them more. - If the puupies are 6 wks and you are just getting one then take an old shirt and sleep in it for about a night or two then put it in the puppies bed so they feel secure

New born puppies are cared for by their mother. When they are born she will clean them and bite through the cord. She will probably stay with them for the next 24 hours, but make sure food and water is available to her if she wants it. Mother dog will look after her puppies on her own. She will lick their bottoms and genitals to stimulate them into poohing and weeing and this she will lick up. Until you start weaning them at around 4 weeks old you shouldn't have anything to worry about except fleas. If your puppies have fleas they can be deflead at the vets from 2 days old with front-line spray. When you begin weaning start with a small amount of food for the puppies to taste. Just one small meal a day for the first couple of days then increase the number of meals over the following week until they are eating 4-5 meals a day. They will eat lots of small meals. When they start weaning the mother will stop stimulating their genitals/bowels which means you will need to start encouraging them to do their business on newspaper (or where ever you want them to do it).

If there is no mother for these puppies you will need to get puppy milk from the vets (Lactol is one we use in the UK). Follow the instructions on the tin. Keep the puppies warm and wipe their bottoms and genitals with a soft cloth to encourage their bladders and bowels to work every hour or so.(mother dog would normally do this with her tongue, but I wouldn't recommended it). You will need to do this until they are weaned.

before each little thing its tremendous that you're prepared to take this dogs in. it really is difficult adequate to stumble on foster properties for one dogs enable.on my own a muddle too. i'm no longer so confident the guy in fee is questioning this by although. Any foster is amazingly below pressure going right into a clean enviroment with new human beings. Any b*** that only had domestic dogs is likewise below rigidity. the mixture of both will be a catastrophe. i will answer the question as if this became your dogs yet i will pretty a lot gaurentee it gained't bypass so properly because the dogs has no longer had time to bond with you or have self belief you. in the adventure that your neonatal care is ideal you'd be coping with those domestic dogs a pair hours after tbey are born. you want to do a puppy examimation making confident they are freed from umbilical hernias, checking each and each foot and leg for better dewclaws and larger. you want to weigh them each morning and evening. you want to take their temp. to make confident they are accomplishing 100 and one.5. you want to record all of those issues. The issues that prefer to be carried out calls for coping with. you ought to no longer be trotting round with them although. in case you do not contact the domestic dogs they are going to learn a thanks to compared to human contact. there is so significantly better stuff i might want to no longer even start up to position in writing all of it.

Are you meaning the momma isnt taking care of them or you just want to know what you can do? Well, the momma should take care of most everything. She will bathe them and feed them and I wouldnt bathe them until they are around wheening age. If you need to help feed them you can get bottles and milk at wal mart or the vet. Just follow instructions, I fed one and they are adorable. Just let the momma do it and then you will have plenty to do later. Keep her in a clean and warm bed and plenty of food and water and they'll be fine.

,If there is a Mama dog put her in a closet or very quiet secure place with her pups..she will do the rest. If you have the pups orphaned get a baby bottle of warmed milk with a nipple and feed them every four hours, keep them in a box with lots of towels and very warm they catch pneumonia very easily. If you can get heating pad on LOW and covered well with pads and put them on that..even a laundry basket is good home for them. Most important is get them to suck and keep them warm and they will make it..Best of luck Come back on and let us know how you did.

Unless they are orphaned pups, the mom will take care of the feeding, cleaning, etc until they are a few weeks old. Mom knows what to do so don't worry.

Remember to always observe the mother and the puppies together. She may suffocate them and not even know it.
