I wanted to go out with this guy, he is only a year younger than me, but my parents thought that was a problem. I'm 17 and he's 16. I think its a little unfair. Plus they r letting my older brother(20) date a girl who is 17. Y wont they let me date a younger guy? Is there something wrong with that?

yes there is something seriously rong with tht....u need to tell ur parents tht u r almost 18 and u deserve to date who u want...they should trust you enough to make ur own decisions...tell them this, but in ur own words and with a little force....if tht doesn't work...compromise with ur parents

No, but just date him anyway. We were born with something called "free will" which means you can go whatever you want and nothing can stop you (unless its against the law). But my point is just date him and then maybe within time you'll parents will understand. Age is only a number, plus 16 and 17 is not that much of a difference. Your parents are acting ridiculous!

being a parent can almost be assured of which side of the fence I would be on but must admit.........there seems to be no difference here to me -
in one sense understand their concern that some might consider you contributing to the mindset of a minor
but is he not the same.........in number ratio only?
I would be just as concerned about a 17 year old girl and a 20 year old guy!

But when live in the household must abide by the rules.

Altho do not understand their thinking here, they have the call.

Appreciate that they are concerned when these days there are so many parents totally uninvolved in the lives of their children on any level.

Your brother is a legal adult, and they can't stop him. You're not, and they can. Your parents are exercising the last bit of control they have over you. When you're 18, I'm sure they'll relax the rules a bit, but for now, they care enough about you to NOT leave you to sink or swim. If they didn't care, you'd have been left on your own a long time ago. Be glad they care at all.

NO THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THAT BUT THE THING WITH THAT IS, THE MALE THAT IS A YEAR YOUNGER THAT YOU WILL AT TIMES FEEL THAT THE ADVICE YOU GIVE HIM IS BECAUSE OF HIS AGE AND YOU MAY MAKE HIM FEEL LIKE YOU WANT TO CONTROL HIM. I KNOW THIS BECAUSE I AM WITH A GUY YOUNGER THAN ME AND MOST OF THOSE THAT YOU DATE WILL GIVE YOU THAT TROUBLE. YOU PARENTS ARE JUST TRYING TO SAY YOU THE DRAMA AND IF IT IS MENT FOR YOU ANF THIS GUY TO TALK GOD WILL ALLOW IT WHEN THE TIME IS RIGHT.

Parents, especially fathers, are more likely to be more strict on the girls. Don't take it personally. You're parents are just looking out for you. Whether or not its the right thing they should be doing. Trust me though. 3 years or less from now you might not even remember who this guy you like is anymore.

Is he in the same grade as you? They probably think that its wrong for girls to date younger guys. You never know it might be your brother talking crap. Just don't tell your parents anything. Why do they need to know?

I don't know why you're parents don't let you to go out with him but I think that its pretty normal and there's no problem.I know many people who are dating with younger or older persons(i'm one of them lol).

No nothing is wrong with the age. Perhaps they do not like the gun in general. But from what you have told us we cannot judge if he is a good guy or a jerk. But you should be able to date who you wish at your age. Good luck.
