There may be a year or more of isolation from the outside world in a convent , but after that , no. I know a nun that is a principal and her mother is a teacher there. She's actually my 2nd cousin and when we found that out, she didn't run screaming :)

most of the religious orders for women involve stopping contact during a period but it resumes once the initial vacation and established. it's a process but it's "all good inthe end". there are some orders that DO have to women into a cloistered environment and they have limited is any contact with their family. those are few and far between. most of the nuns - felician, bevedictine, etc. are able to have full contact with the families and can often be stationed in schools and parishes near their families. while it doesn't always happen the order will generally place them in such settings.

Yes, you can still talk to your parents, but in some cases you are not allowed contact with family for a period of time (about a year.) After then you can have contact with family.

No, you do not give up all contact. They are not the most important things to you, but you do not give up all contact with them. I am not a Catholic, but I have a friend that is a nun.

Both my Aunt and great Aunt were nuns until their deaths, and I can tell you that they for sure do not lose contact with their families.

No. You vow to give up sex. You can take a vow of poverty. Not your family. Sure isn't god all about family?? I know the church is hypocritical about a lot of what god is about but that would just be taking the piss - don't you think????

That depends on which group you join. They do not place you in a group that you do not wish to be in.
There are some groups that pray almost 24/7 for us!
Others are very different, depends on the woman's calling.
Peace!
