To begin with, Buddhism is not really a religion but a tool for awakening man from his sleep. One aspect that I find fascinating about Buddhism is that the whole responsibility of awakening yourself is only yours. No devil made me do it excuse here.Of course by transforming your life Buddhism will bring you closer to that dimension where spirit and love prevails.

If people had the courage to investigate it, I'm sure they'd find it to be quite naturally spiritual. In fact, I once had a book called the Buddhist Teacings of Jesus. The two German authors did some very extensive research and present a compelling argument that Jesus was a Buddhist! Read the Sermon on the Mount, Mt 5-7 and see for yourself. Overcoming the 'self/ego' is the exact message of Jesus which I find when reading the four Gospels which we are "allowed" to have in the New Testament.

I am a Theravada Buddhist. Theravada buddhism exists in countries like Sri Lanka and Thailand.
I think it is more logical than every other religon I have heard of.

I found the philosophy very helpful but I reject all religions. I studied zen, mahayana, tibetan, etc... and found the whole 'ego" teaching very practical. But I don't buy into rebirth or that mystical stuff.

And Ray, it IS being disrespectful to any religion to say it is not the truth. When a xian sect comes up to you and says you don't follow the truth b/c you don't stone your mother to death for picking up sticks on the sabbath, or not stoning a rape victim b/c she didn't cry out loud enough, or not stoning your brother for wearing 2 different materials, you will understand. You say there is no other living god, others say there are, so whatever.

I have never had any problems with Buddhists. Unlike many Christians I have met, they are generally polite and never condemn others for believing differently.

I don't understand why I would want to follow the teachings of any group though. I prefer to reach my beliefs on an individual basis on the basis of evidence and reason, and not because those beliefs are endorsed by some social group or leader.

I think it's a sound philosophy. I've looked at all the religions in depth and they all have merit but Buddhism is the only one without deities and miracles and which puts the emphasis on each individual to strive for his own salvation.

I was actually surprised to learn that on some levels, Buddhism and Christianity have some interesting parallels.

Buddhism is a great philosophy. If I could convince myself that reincarnation was true, I would probably be a Buddhist.

At least Buddhism is a peaceful religion, and they don't force their beliefs onto people, unlike the others.

I think pretty highly of Buddhism because after studying it, I call myself Buddhist.
