you can prime it but let it fully cure for 24 hours for best results on the final coat.

when doing the final coat it is best to do it all at once to get the same coverage on all the walls.

You can paint a ceiling and wait a week before you do the rest. Actually, the best way to paint is to do a primer and wait at least a day before applying the paint. Then wait another day before applying a second coat and wait another day before you hang anything up.

The bad part of home makeover shows is that idiots see these shows paint and hang things the Same day. Even fast drying paint will not colmpletely cure for a day. I shreak when I see them redo bookshelves and the same day put books on them!

I would love to see the One Week After the makeover shows, and see these people peeling magazines and books off the now ruined shelves. Actually, I'd love to see how many people have to completely redo their makeovers because they were done too fast and not allowed to dry.

There's certainly no reason to do the entire room in one day if you don't have the time. I think your plan for priming the ceiling first is excellent. Latex paint generally takes a few hours to dry so that it won't rub off on clothes, skin, etc.; it may take a little longer to become fully dry and lose its odor.

Primer coats can be applied at different times because it gets covered. The finish coats need to be applied at the same time. If for some reason you need to stop, make the break in a corner and it won't be noticeable.
