My dog wants my attention 24/7. But because I have a life outside of hers, she barks like a maniac if I try to focus on something other than her! Can anyone help me? My sanity hangs in the balance!

Your dog has an anxiety problem.
When I work with dogs that have this problem, the first thing we tell the owners to do is purchase a KONG toy fill it with KONG filling or peanut butter (much cheaper) When you need to leave the dog, give him the KONG. He will spend so much time trying to get the peanut butter out of the KONG, he won't realize that you've been gone.

Use the toy every time you leave. Soon, he'll be just as excited for you to leave as he is for you to get home.

Haven't seen this one fail yet.

You should probably get a trainer. Learn sit and in particular down. When the dog starts her attention dominance start putting her in "downs". You may have to do the 30 to 50 times a day for while.
Once you release the dog, re-direct the dogs attention with a toy or continue with the downs and sits. This may seem as if you are giving in by letting her have your attention but after a few of these tell her to "go away, or go on".
Eventually she will calm herself

Do not reward the barking. Only silence. If necessary put her in a bathroom or a laundry room for a few minutes, untill quiet then let her out. Sometimes (Dark) helps them stop barking. Option 2 a penny can ,shake it to startle the dog when she barks.#3 squirt bottle. Squirt her when she barks( My dogs likes it, though most don't) Or any combo of these .

If you live in a house put her in the yard and let her bark,,she'll eventually wear out and someday learn to entertain herself. If your in and apt get her a lot of toys. Then there is the idea of another pet to occupy her attention, sometimes its easier on you to have two pets than one when you have a problem like you have. Good luck. . Have children..hire some children to walk her or play with her..Send her to your mothers.. O..how old is she? A pup that will grow out of it soon? Get a trainer..

there is a few simple steps; get him on a leash and sit him next to u. dont allow any slack on the leash. and right before he is about to bark , yank the leash to the side , toward you in a quick action and in the same time say in a loud and demanding voice sshh! and nothing else dont pet him and call him just yank and sshh!! try this for 15 min intervels. be firm and consistant, its work but in the long run its heavenly

If she was more tired out (from exercise and play), the barking would stop. Our dog does the same thing when she hasn't gotten enough exercise.

Don't give her any attention until she stops making noise. This way you are rewarding her for being quiet. It may take a while, but she'll get the picture.
