I am not a big water drinker, I need it with something, either hot/cold tea with equal/splenda sweeteners or sugar-free drink mixes (crystal-light). Do these no-sugar drinks still count towards my "8 glasses day" or not?

You really should be drinking just water. Those other things are mostly water, but they also have impurities that counter-balance the purity of water. (caffeine, sweeteners, other artificial stuff). Tell yourself that for every two glasses of pure water, you can have a different drink.

This fact that you should be drinking 8 glasses of water a day, is referring to 8 glasses of pure mineralized water, however, crystal light, that i myself drink, is a great substitue. Tea, on the other hand, has caffeine which definetely isn't healthy, taking into consideration the feeling you get during and after youve consumed caffeine. If your someone who doesn't find water to be sweet enough for you, or even have a taste, i would suggest putting a slice of lemon or lime in your water. You could also look into drinking flavoured water, preferably nestle, since it has no calories as opposed to aquafina flavoured water, 10 calories per bottle. Anyways, hope this helped out a bit, and never forget, you can treat yourself once in awhile... a glass of herbal tea might be nice once in awhile but it isn't exactly as healthy as having a glass of purified water! :o)

yes it should be only water. That much coffee would not be good for you. That is too much caffeine. You can use a little lemon or a wedge of orange to give it a taste, however sugar or splenda/equal or crystal lite, or sodas (pop)is what one should try to avoid. We use to much sugar and salt in or diets, and that is why drinking 8 glasses of water is recommended. It may not taste good to you at first, however you will get used to it,and in time you will not miss, the sugary drinks, at all .

The only problem there is that caffeine and sweeteners can dehydrate you. Try to drink as much plain water as you can - remember that a large 16 oz. glass is actually 2 cups, so you would only have to drink 4 of them. Good luck!

the rule of thumb that I go by is 1/2 of my body weight in ounces of water. If you weigh 200 pounds, you should be drinking 100 ounces of water or 3 liters. What I do to change my water up is to add a squeeze of lemon and about 4 drops of liquid stevia. I also have a citrus/lemon boost concentrate that I add 2 teaspoons.

As far as tea and sugar free addititives, it takes away because in some instances, you are modifying the molecule of water.

If I can be of further assistance, let me know.

You want 3 glasses of plain water a day, plus everything else non caffeinated counts on top of this. Aim for 6.

All sources count, but not necessarily at 100%. Cola for instance is a diuretic, which means it causes you to have to, um, get rid of water. So one cup of Cola would only count as about half a cup net.

But good sources of natural juices, etc in fruit or even food count towards your daily intake, 100% same as water.

Drinking 8 glasses of water a day would mean entirely too many trips to the loo for me.

last I heard diet soda counts...it was on the news about half a year ago, it made me say bollucks to the eight glasses a day myth...basically keep yourself hydrated...

right, update, you don't need eight glasses a day, but you do need water. depens on enviroment, how much you work etc. (I know there have been days out airsofting in the high desert where i almost gulp down two gallons of the stuff)

here is an old discussion on the eight glasses of water thing form cnn archives...
