By yourself the best thing is to start walking. I got in so much better shape this summer just walking my dog around and walking to the grocery store a half mile away rather than driving. Walk to the bank, walk to the post office and library. Basically increase your radius of places where you can walk instead of drive. Start off with a mile or half.
Get a workout buddy. Find something you both enjoy. My wife likes to do Tae Kwon Do with her friends and she swims with her other friend. Take a spin class with a friend or take up a sport like raquet ball or tennis. Just make it fun or your desire to do it will decrease. And get a friend that you know isn't a weiner.

Just start slow. If you're living a sedentary lifestyle, any increase in activity is a good thing. Walking is a great place to start because you don't need any special skills to do it. Start with whatever you can handle right now, even if it's just 5 or 10 minutes of brisk walking every day. Add on 5 minute increments until you can do it for at least 30 minutes. As far as intensity goes, you're working hard enough if you CAN carry on a normal conversation, but CAN'T sing a song. Once you have your aerobic capacity up, then add some weight training. You'll probably have to join a gym to do it, but it's worth it; you can gain healthy weight that way in the form of lean muscle mass. Most gyms offer at least one short session with a trainer when you join, so you can get a preliminary workout plan built that way.
As far as diet goes, you know McDonald's isn't doing you any good. It's not hard to substitute healthy meals for fast food, it just means planning a little more when you're grocery shopping and packing lunches for school or work.

Although a nutritionist and a personal trainer would work all too well, it costs alot of money.. I would suggest you listen to all those people who recommended walking and mild jogging, it works like a charm, however I too havea few suggestions to pose. First of all, i recently took up kickboxing classes, now, one would think that costs alot of money , but it was a flat rate of $30. How? I bought a kick boxing video, Billy Banks specialty. For about half an hour a day, a kick boxing routine builds muscle as well as makes you feel more fit and in shape. The other at home fitness technique that i recommend, is PILATES. These are very strong excersises that you can do right at home, and they are also very relaxing. If you have any further questions, I believe you can send me a message through this site.. Take care

Check out your local gyms, you should find that they offer the sort of “routines and schedules” you’re looking for in both the physical and nutritional categories you’re interested in.
Have all your questions and concerns written down before you conduct your interviews with their staff and trainers. Doing this will help you enormously in evaluate which gym and trainer will provide you with the results you’re interested in achieving.
If the above isn’t your cup of tea, then perhaps a yoga class is more to your liking. Your community college probably offers a class or two and if not then there might be classes offered by local small business owners regarding yoga.
A “Yahoo! Search” (or Google even) could bring up tons of sites on yoga and exercise in fact.
And of course good old fashion "walking" is always an excellent way to tone up, shape up, get healthy, feel better, and or exercise!
Good luck to you in any event!

Start walking- it's the best and cheapest thing to do.
Walk 10-20 minutes a day, then increase your distance.

Have you thought about joining a gym and speaking with a personal trainer as well as a nutritionist? Walking is a good way to get started again.
Good luck.

Curves for Women is a lot of fun. It's inexpensive, only 30 minutes three times a week and should be just what you described. Check your local area to see if they have a Curves.
