Sorry Tom Cruise, but you know your "religion" is a joke when the fundies and atheists AGREE that you're nuts.

As an atheist, I used to think that all religious people were "crazy nutters", Scientologists perhaps crazier than most. But as with almost any philosophy, there is stuff that is useful and makes sense if you can distill it from all the other garbage that is added to it by people trying to make money off of you. A woman I highly respect (my violin teacher) mentions Scientology principles in my lessons, and at first it sort of freaked me out but now I find a lot of it to be quite reasonable and helpful. I'm not going to become a Scientologist anymore than I'm going to become a Christian, but I think there is good to be found in both religions (cults?).
Incidentally, I'm now very active in my local Unitarian Universalist congregation, where we believe that how you live your life is far more important than any specific creed you may subscribe to.

Why is that any more wacko than a 6,000 year-old earth and heaven, a solid 'firmament' structure (the sky) separating the earth from heaven (terrarium earth), talking snakes (with legs) and donkeys, a shepherd staff that turns into an asp, demons chased out of people and into pigs, friendly spirits, evil spirits, walking on water, multiplying loaves and fishes, food falling from the sky, conception by a ghost, people raised from the dead, the sun stopping in its tracks, parting seas, people being bodily sucked up into heaven (which, by the way, lies on the 'other side' of the sky), world-wide flood that drowned the earth to a depth of 40 feet above the tallest mountain, creating people from a dust bunny and a rib, a magical tree of knowledge, god speaking from a burning bush... and ritual cannibalism, by eating god in the form of a cracker?

Bad experience with leadership is a "common ground" that both Christians and Atheists share. Also, confidence that they are right regardless of what anyone says is also another "common ground."
Nutters? Leave the almonds alone.

It is not a religion, but a huge business, actually! The whacky stories are only camouflage, they PRETEND to be a religion.
What they are realy abpout is: making money. You have to pay a lot of money to buy their teachings. Stay away!

Yes, agreed. But it is not far off from Panspermia. And one of your atheist brethren, JT, believes in it.
Then again, if I was rich and crazy like Cruise, maybe I'd get some of that religion, too. What else would I do with my time.

Oh yeah. You should see downtown Clearwater, FL at dusk. Little uniformed people out and wondering around like zombies.

Sounds like a (very) thinly veiled plan to get people to part with their money.
It seems to be working, as there are plenty of them, and some very rich ones too...
