Don't worship false gods, because there is only one God. Nice try. It does not indicate that God thinks there are other Gods, just that people tended to worship the gods that the people that they lived with did (in Egypt, etc.). All of those poeple were wrong. Those gods didn't exist or they were considered demons.

In the Bible, anyone or anything which is powerful or might be worshipped could be referred to as a god. The one, true God wants to protect us by letting us know that he is the only real God and the only one who can do for us the things we really need. It refers to Satan as the "god of this world" and we would especially not want to be misled by him as it also says he is a liar and the father of the lie and that he pretends to be an angel of light and he is misleading the entire inhabited earth.

Since there are no other real gods, He wants us to worship Him. Some of the most common so called gods today are the worship of money and desire for attention.
By the way, we have a lot here seeking attention.

This is from the Bible in the Old Testament. It was one of the 10 commendaments, actually the first one.

This means that you should not seek anything else in life and dedicate yourself to it more than God. Anything in life that you love so much that you end up worshiping, you are giving "god" status and God does not like this. He wants to be the God you follow, not a fake god from a hobby or idol.

To me, this is simply telling me that I am to trust in no one else except the only true, eternal God, Jehovah. And to serve the Lord Jesus Christ with all my heart. We are not to ever trust in idol gods, such as statutes; as many seem to enjoying doing. But we must also realize, that anything which we put before God in our life, is also considered as a god to us. God does not care for us being blessed and having things, as we do not allow things to have us. Remember Matt. 6:33. It is so easy to allow material things, or other people, to be more important to us than God Himself. So we must walk every day, always remembering to pray to God to lead and to guide us, and to give us Godly wisdom to not get sidetracked by other people and things of this earth. He must always be number one!

All who acknowledge and worship any other God than the Lord the Savior, Jesus Christ, who is Jehovah God Himself in human form, sin against this first commandment. Those also sin against it who persuade themselves of the actual existence of three Divine persons from eternity

That means that you shoudl not worship anything besides him such as material things, animals, objects or anything like that. Because there are some people woudl put their cars, houses, jobs, money and worship them over God which are all things He actually created. Therefore don't put anything higher than God.

It implies to me that people worshiped other gods, and God was saying that He was to be first and foremost.
