Do it, it will be an experience you will never forget. You will meet other people fast enough, stay in hostels to start to meet plenty of other young people and be friendly at the pubs. The only problem you will have is not wanting to leave :-) I actually think travelling alone is better, you don't get the full experience with someone else tying you down and keeping you from meeting new people and doing new things. OZ is big but most of it is desert with cities interspersed along the coastlines. If you don't want to travel on your own while there, you can do something like the Oz Experience bus trip for young people. I backpacked and worked around the world for 10-years always on my own and never had any issues or trouble meeting people.

You didn't say how old you are or where you are from. If you are under 30 (might be 35 now) and from the USA, you can get a work visa through a company called BUNAC (see their website) . You can also apply for a work visa to New Zealand at the same time set so you can head over there when your Oz visa expires. Bunac can also help you get a discount air ticket with flexible routing and the ability to change schedules and routes for up to 2-years from issue for $50 per change.

You will have the best time of your life, so go for it. I went in 2003 with a company called CCUSA. They were really good - they sorted my Visa out, recommended flights and prices (although I found cheaper ones myself on the internet), picked me up from the airport, booked and paid for my first two nights accomodation and provided constant support during my trip. They have offices all around Oz that you can go to when you need something (advice, booking trips, etc.). They also show you around the city (I went to Sydney).

I honestly cant recommend them highly enough (I don't work for them either!). Take a look at the website link below and see what you think.

I was really worried that going on my own would be hard, but I was so wrong. If you stay in hostels there are always people to meet and talk to. Most importantly there are lots of people that you can go out with and have a great laugh. I met loads of people who I am still in contact with - some of them I regard as my best friends.

If you are american it can be a little harder to get a visa. If you are English then you should know its no prob. The Americans can get a 4 month work visa but think you have to be under 30.

No worries going alone... lots of people do it and you will meet many people along the way. I lived in Bondi Beach for 5 years and all of my flatmates were backpackers... the ones that did travel with friends often missed out cause they were too busy keeping to themselves. If you get a visa go to one of the main citys (Sydney, Melbourne, Perth etc... I hear Brisbane is harder to get work unless you know people... but that could be a load of bull) first live in a hostel and then check out the flatmate wanted ads. I know that Bondi (Sydney) has a million short term situations like this as do other area's. Most of the hostels have info boards with this kind of info.

Have fun

If your over 30 it could be a problem.
I travelled to Oz on my own and thought it was brilliant. If you stay i a backpackers you will meet people like yourself travelling alone who will be glad of a chat. Once you get over the first couple of days yourself. I',m still in touch with people i met 4 years ago

regardless of being presented a activity you is in simple terms not waiting to settle for it. it rather is not a occupation that qualified for a WHV. you have wasted your first WHV and is in simple terms not waiting to get a 2nd one.
