Actually neither is very bad for you. Did you know the risk of getting lung cancer for a cigar smoker is the same as that of a non-smoker? You don't inhale the smoke which means that most of the nicotine is absorbed directly through the lips and tongue. Also, because cigars use high-quality tobacco they don't require tar and gross chemicals to get the filler to stick together, or to mask the flavor of harsher leaves. All in all I believe smoking is better than chewing, for the same reason that cancer rates are higher in people who use chewing tobacco. And on a side note...if you wanted to "chew" cigars with less risk you could use the same method as Winston Churchill. He would take small bits of a thin brown rolling paper with a small daub of rice glue and stick it to the end of the cigar. That way he absorbed much less nicotine through his lips and the cigar wouldn't fray as much.

Chewing Cigar Tobacco

Both smoking a cigar and chewing a cigar can be unhealthy. Chewing a cigar is exactly the same as gnawing on some good old fashioned chewing tobacco. However, smoking a cigar may be a bit more unhealthy because certain poisons are created and released during the burning of the tobacco that are not present while only chewing tobacco. I hope that answers your question.

Most cigar smokers don't inhale, so I will say that chewing is worse. But only for that reason.

Smoking can cause cancer, cause mouth and lip cancer and even lung if you inhale... chewing could cause mouth and lip cancer. That is two more cancers for smoking v.s. chewing
