What does it mean when your dog enjoys holding your arm in its mouth gently and licks you with its tongue underneath your arm as it holds it?

Our dog won't do that with me, but she does it all the time with my husband when she's feeling playful. She'll be lying down and he'll come to cuddle with her. She'll sort of roll over and take his hand in her mouth - gently - and just lick. And then he likes to play back and "grab" her tongue while she's doing that...SO cute to see them playing like this together.

I had a large Pit Bull that loved to hold my arm. I always thought she was telling me " Look do I have your attention? ..I know I could snap your arm if I wanted too, but I love you so much I just want to be gentle with you and I would never hurt you ". I don't know what she really was doing that's what made me feel good. But it still makes sense to me one of her ways to communicate with me.

He wants to play with you and is trying to get you to start playing with him! He is most likely licking you so that you know that he isnt doing this in an agressive way and then again he may not want to bite down to hard!!

He wants to play most likely but i would discourage your dog from mouthing at you. In some dogs it is a sign that they are trying to test you to see if they can be dominit (or the top dog).
