What was your dream that someone crushed? If you're afraid your child will embarrass you by not living up to your expectations...I hope you will recognize the utter hell your visiting upon your child and back off. Better to encourage the child, allow them to find their own way. If you don't support their choice, then don't provide for opportunities beyond what you can support, but keep your own problems out of your kids' life.

Take your child to the starting. There's along like of people that want to become actors. Show him (I'm assuming it's a boy, since you said " actor " and not " actress" ) the long line of people that are right there trying to make a name for them selves. Point to the Classified and show him the number of job listing there are for actors ( I haven't seen that many) Make him work for it. Make him stick too it. If it's too hard, he'll quit on his own.

that not a good thing to do to a kid, but if you really wanted to crush ur kid dream, than tell him stories about what happened with child actors from the 80's, they ended up with a bad life and stuff, tell him about mac culkin, how he did not have a good life as a actor. but be aware that your kid will be heart broken and not happy with you. heres a good link to webpage about child actors http://www.drphil.com/articles/article/171

It is very easy to crush their dreams but remember when you get old they are the ones who choose your retirement home.

Let him dream, he will find out for himself if he is good, but let him find out.

You don't! You let the child have their dreams. Never know, they may prove you wrong and you'll look the fool.

Supposedly, John Lennon's aunt (she was his foster mother) once observed him playing guitar all the time and told him, "Playing guitar is all fine and well John, but you will never earn a living at it."

Give your child whatever advice you feel is necessary and then get out of his/her way.
