Can anyone tell me if there is a place I can look to find out the naming for small electric connectors such as those used for battery packs and AM antennae? I know these connectors have to have some sort of naming convention, but all anyone seems to be able to tell me is to take the connector to the store and match up to what is there. I would like to find somewhere to buy these connectors loose and install them myself

Thanks

There are a lot of different naming conventions for electronic connectors and different segments of the industry have their own naming conventions. For example, connectors for computers are named using different conventions than connectors for radio frequency (RF) applications. The link below is to the Amp catalog. Amp is a major manufacturer of electronic connectors of all types and you may find the connectors you're looking for in its catalog.

What you won't find is why the connectors are named the way they are. And you won't learn why some connectors have two names, such as a PL-259 and UHF connector. (Those are both the same thing.) Many connector names came from military designations and many others use the name that the company gave it when the connector was developed.

I'm not sure of the naming convention you are looking for. This could be for schematic or the 'common every day' term.

As for a location to purchase... check out the website in the source field. They have some great stuff!
