Don't cheat yourself! Pigs are really dirty animals and their meat contain so many worms and viruses some of which do not die when you boil the meat in the water.

You must think about 1470 years (or so) back. That is approx. the time when their Qr'an was written. They did not have the knowledge we nowadays have, and of course thy had no cooling system at all.
Remember, they lived in the desert, hot wheather!
It was dangerous to eat pigs, because they would decade (decompost?) fast (sorry, don't know the correct english words), and very likely they could be carrying trichomonades (engl.?) which would be fatal for those who eat.
So, this was purely based on hygiene reasons.
But above that all, why would you eat a pig anyway? Have you ever seen how they are killed? Have you ever seen them cry? Do you think they don't know what is happenening to them when they arrive and hear the other pigs scream?
Justifying that torture with any "good tasting" is absolutely evil in my eyes.

Pigs also are known for contracting and passing on worms, particularly if the meat is not prepared properly. As a result, I suspect, in days past, it was wise to ban a food product to protect the community...using God as justification probably helped make the case stronger.

Scientist recently found a worm in their meat and that is why pork needs to be cooked well. In addition pigs are dirty animals, they eat anyrhing including their own waste.

Pigs are seen by Judeo and Muslims as unclean because pigs will eat anything, including their young.
Tasty yes...bad for us...yes.
Can their organs be used for humans, yes. Pigs are not bad animals; actually they are very intelligent. However, where food consumption is concerned...to each his own.

Like many taboos, it started out for more practical reasons -- pork and shellfish can make you sick if it's not cooked properly, uncircumcised penises are much more likely to get infections, inbreeding can cause genetic defects in offspring, etc. People just forgot the real-world reasons why they do things, and get too hung up on the mysticism of it all.

Actually, none of the answers so far has told you the real reason - they are all just speculating. The story of why Muhammed prohibited the eating of pork is quite interesting, might even be seen as funny by some. ;-)
