It's got to be either the SBS or the Royal Marine Mountain and Arctic Warfare Cadre. The SBS can do everything the SAS can do but on water as well, and the RM ML's are the best Arctic warfare specialist around.

SBS & SAS are deemed to be the best trained in the world as they allow individual thinking amongst there Soldiers, The have had a few notable High profile operations " Iranian Embassy & Bravo Two Zero". However they also have one of the hardest entrance exams around.
If you look at the Background of the SAS in North Africa, and Malay in the 50'5, The Defence of Oman in the 60's & 70's Drug Incurssion training and tactics in South America in the 80's & 90's.
However you can not overlook any of the others, To Name but a few, Germany GSG9, France DSG, Russia SPETNAZ, Australia& NZ there own SAS. And the several Arms of the US. Incl Delta, Seals. However i would not include units such as Royal Marines, Rangers, Force Recon as spec ops as they are still normal Units and are not bound to secrecy.
There is one that still sticks out. and that is MOSSAD, and there various departments. They have been involved in many high profile operations since there inception in 1952, Many of you may have seen the film Munich, this shall give you an idea as to some of there more higher profile operations and what they are capable of.

You can have this debate until the cows come home, which ever way you look at it, you dont not want to be on the receiving end of any of these groups attention.

Its hard to say since Special Force are all elite and a lot about them is kept secret so its hard to compare. The S.A.S. seems to be the measuring stick for a lot of Special Forces around the world, so I would probably say they are the best individual group. Although I have nothing to base this on other than their reputation. As far as Special Forces as a whole it seems hard to compete with the US. Delta Force, Navy SEALs, Force Recon, Green Berets, Army Rangers, Para rescue, Combat Controllers ,and probably some others that I can't think of, are all amazing.

That is a tough team to beat.

With every day pass, our country is getting into more and more trouble. The inflation, unemployment and falling value of dollar are the main concern for our Government but authorities are just sleeping, they don’t want to face the fact. Media is also involve in it, they are force to stop showing the real economic situation to the people. I start getting more concern about my future as well as my family after watching the response of our Government for the people that affected by hurricane Katrina.

According to recent studies made by World Bank, the coming crisis will be far worse than initially predicted. So if you're already preparing for the crisis (or haven't started yet) make sure you watch this video at http://www.familysurvival.tv and discover the 4 BIG issues you'll have to deal with when the crisis hits, and how to solve them fast (before the disaster strikes your town!) without spending $1,000s on overrated items and useless survival books.

With each country having it's own special forces it is a difficult one to answer.
I would say the ones you never hear about are doing a really good job.
Any that have Jocks are the tops for me.

Ok gonna put this straight the SAS is the ORIGINAL special forces unit the kind of feats that they accomplished are more dramatic and succsefull than any holliwood film. Some people may say the US navy seals or the rangers or some other rubbish. The american millitery is useless especualy the "elite" forces. My dad has seen them (UK special forces) in action they beat the us special forces hands down so there!!

France has the best.

The toughest regiment in the world is the French Foreign Legion's 2nd Regiment Etranger Parachutiste and in this regiment the elite unit is the Commando de Recherche et d'Action en Profondeur (CRAP !).

They are Air Sea Land troops specialized in sabotage, recon, combat rescue, behind ennemy lines operations, regular and guerilla warfare and assasination. they are trained to the highest level for warfare on all sorts of terrain be it mountain, desert, they are proficient in jungle warfare, urban combat.

Legionnaire always have been the most determined and courageous warriors.

And remember that there is a lot, I mean a lot of special operatives form other countries that join the légion étrangere.

Yeah I do live in the UK, but I would go for the Israeli Special Forces the Sayeret Matkal. This is based on the fact that this unit is based in a country in perpetual warfare and virtually sees action all the time with a high rate of success and minimal casualties. You can recall Entebbe (lost just one soldier and destroyed the Ugandan airforce on their own soil while rescuing a plane-load of hostages), the assassination of Black September terrorists (in the heart of a hostile Beirut, Lebanon) and many others equally successful actions in periods of war. A lot of famous Israeli politicians have served in Sayeret Matkal (Ehud Barak, considered by some Israel's best commando ever as well as well as Benjamin Netanyahu and his brother Yonatan (the sole casualty at Entebbe). The SAS has also pulled off some amazing coups such as rescuing hostages held by Iranian terrorists in London, as well as the exploits of Bravo Unit who destroyed Iraqi Scud missiles in the Gulf War (they were all wiped out save one) but with Sayeret Matkal seeing action so often, making the most outrageous and daring raids with such a high degree of success on a more frequent basis and with comparatively lower casualty rate, I'll go for them.
